The Lead Payroll Analyst will play a key role within the Global Accounting organization, responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing and reporting across Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. This role also partners closely with employees and key internal stakeholders to provide payroll support and ensure smooth collaboration across functions.
The position requires a strong financial and analytical mindset with a focus on payroll accounting, reconciliations, audit readiness, and data integrity. The ideal candidate will bring experience in multi-country payroll operations, a solid understanding of statutory and tax requirements, and the ability to partner effectively with People Operations, Accounting, and external payroll vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Oversight
Manage end-to-end payroll operations across multiple EMEA entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with local tax and labor regulations.
Partner with external payroll and benefits vendors to validate inputs, approve calculations, and ensure proper accounting treatment.
Coordinate and validate funding requirements and payment files for payroll, taxes, and statutory obligations.
Employee Experience & Service Excellence
Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding payroll-related inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and empathetic responses that reinforce trust.
Partner closely with employees and the People team to resolve complex payroll matters, explain calculations, deductions, or policy impacts, and provide clarity on pay changes or adjustments.
Represent the payroll function onsite, creating a visible and approachable “face to payroll” that strengthens employee connection to the team and enhances overall employee experience.
Compliance & Controls
Maintain up-to-date understanding of statutory regulations across EMEA, including income tax, pension, and social contributions.
Support month-end and year-end close processes, including payroll accruals, bonus provisions, and variance analysis.
Conduct detailed reconciliations between payroll outputs, accounting entries, and HR data.
Ensure payroll compliance with SOX/internal control requirements and audit documentation standards.
Coordinate with Finance, Tax, and external providers on compliance filings, audits, and local reporting requirements.
Perform payroll tax reconciliations and statutory payment validations.
Process Improvement & Systems
Identify and drive process improvements that strengthen payroll accuracy, efficiency, and financial controls.
Collaborate with the People Operations and HRIS teams to ensure master data accuracy in systems such as Workday and ADP.
Contribute to global payroll standardization and automation initiatives across Digital Turbine’s regional entities.
Highlight common questions or pain points from employee interactions and proactively recommend process or communication improvements to reduce friction and improve transparency.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.
5+ years of experience in payroll, with a strong accounting and reconciliation focus, in addition to experience partnering closely with employees and HR partners.
2+ years of experience in multi-country EMEA payroll.
In-depth knowledge of statutory payroll requirements in Poland, with strong expertise in Germany preferred, or experience in at least one of the following: Netherlands, Spain, or UK.
Experience with global payroll systems (Workday, ADP, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles, journal entries, and intercompany processes.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills in English; additional language(s) are a plus.
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced global environment.
