Lead, NPD Sourcing Operations is a leadership role and key leader within the Quality organization with a dotted line to Direct Sourcing. This role owns the sourcing strategy for Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) and Contract Manufacturing (CM) NPD engagements across the full New Product Development lifecycle — from prototype through mass production handoff. This individual serves as the senior liaison between Category Sourcing, Engineering, Product Management, and external ODM/CM suppliers, escalation point for supplier risk, and decision-maker on sourcing strategy and program direction. This individual is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the supply chain across multiple NPD programs.
- Own end-to-end ODM/CM engagement strategy from RFP through supplier selection, setting direction for sourcing deliverables during POC, EVT, DVT, PVT, and MP ramp and holding the team accountable to them
- Set and own the ODM/CM sourcing strategy for all new product introductions, aligning with category sourcing leadership on selection based on product, volume, and technology requirements of new and upcoming projects
- Lead and own make-vs-buy analyses and ODM-vs-Nogales trade-off assessments for new products
- Lead DVF/toll gate reviews and ensure sourcing deliverables are met at each development phase
- Serve as the primary Sourcing representative for NPD teams
- Manage alignment with Program Management on ODM/CM deliverables and product launch schedules
- Independently and proactively manage, help support or lead resolution of supplier risks that could impact time-to-market
- Manage and report on ODM/CM manufacturing capacity, ensuring supply commitments are aligned with product launch timelines and demand forecasts
- Manage development of PowerPoint decks covering program status, costs, sourcing risks, decisions, blockers, mitigations, and timelines
- Lead meetings cross-functionally to facilitate decision making and drive clarity
- Engage and communicate with VP+ and executive-level stakeholders on a regular basis to communicate and align on project status and sourcing strategy
- Own and approve project scope agreements (e.g. SOW) including NRE, tooling, unit pricing, capacity commitments, and IP ownership
- Manage NRE budgets, tooling amortization, and total cost of ownership analysis with Finance and Product Management for make-vs-buy decisions or other analysis purposes
- Lead supplier meetings as needed; hold suppliers accountable to commitments and conflict resolution
- Lead complex negotiations and serve as the sourcing escalation point for the project team
- Manage alignment with Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems Engineering during design phases on product requirements versus ODM quotation and scope of work.
- Lead IP discussions with Legal in supplier engagements and manage category sourcing follow-up to ensure proper documentation is in place when necessary
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Experience:
- 8-10+ yrs of relevant work experience in supply chain, sourcing, or logistics
- Demonstrated experience in working cross-functionally with engineering and product development or related teams
- Supplier relationship management
- Strong analytical and communication skills; comfortable presenting project updates and/or recommendations to executive leadership.
