At OneSpan, we specialize in digital identity and anti-fraud solutions that create exceptional and secure experiences.
At OneSpan we are looking for a Lead SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) — a strong software engineer who specializes in test — to architect and own our QA automation frameworks and strategy across the entire Mobile Security Suite (MSS) SDK portfolio. Our Mobile Security Suite (MSS) spans multiple SDKs across iOS, Android, and server-side platforms (.NET and Java).
This is a hybrid role: part hands-on automation engineer, part technical lead. You will work alongside our Android automation developer, manual QA engineer, and feature developers, contribute directly to test automation across all MSS SDKs, and design the frameworks, tooling, strategy, and roadmap that take our QA practice to the next level.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead Test Strategy: Assess current automation coverage across all MSS SDKs (iOS, Android, server-side), identify gaps, and define the testing strategy, tooling, and project setup needed to close them.
• Contribute Hands-On: Design, write, and maintain automated tests across iOS, Android, and server-side SDKs — using AI coding tools and partnering with feature developers on platforms where you need extra language or domain support.
• Own the Pipelines: Build and maintain GitLab CI pipelines (YAML), Bash scripts, and Gradle builds across our multiple SDK pipelines to run automated suites, stand up local/test servers, and integrate with real-device testing cloud solutions.
• Drive Planning & Reporting: Prepare quality and coverage reports, and bring recommendations and next steps to quarterly planning with engineering leadership.
• Mentor the Team: Guide the automation developers, feature developers, and QA engineers who contribute to automation; help formalize processes, code review standards, and best practices.
• Keep Growing: Stay current with mobile and server-side testing tools and frameworks; proactively identify and fill missing skills or tooling gaps on the team.
Required Technical Skills
• Automation Leadership: 6+ years in software test automation, including experience defining test strategy and leading or mentoring other engineers.
• Framework Architecture: Proven track record designing, building, and maintaining test automation frameworks and harnesses from the ground up — abstraction layers, reusable components, test data and fixtures — not just writing tests against an existing suite.
• Mobile Automation Expertise: Deep hands-on mobile test automation in at least one mobile stack — iOS (Swift, XCTest/XCUITest) or Android (Kotlin, Compose Test/Espresso/UI Automator) — with the ability to extend to the other and to server-side, using AI coding tools and feature-developer support to bridge gaps.
• Test Infrastructure: Builds and owns the test infrastructure that runs the suites, including integration with the third-party real-device cloud services we use for tests that need real hardware.
• CI/CD & Scripting: GitLab CI and YAML pipeline authoring, Bash scripting, Gradle.
• Version Control: Git and standard branching / pull request workflows.
• Comfortable working across a multi-language, multi-platform codebase and picking up a new language or framework when a project requires it.
Nice to Have
• Server-Side: Java, Spring or Spring Boot, JUnit 4 and JUnit 5.
• .NET / C# experience, to extend automation coverage to .NET-based server components.
• Experience testing security-sensitive SDKs (e.g., anti-tampering, threat detection, RASP) or working in a regulated / security-conscious product environment.
• Prior experience leading or building a QA automation function from an early stage.
Soft Skills
• Strong leadership and mentoring instincts, with the ability to influence without formal authority.
• Clear communicator, comfortable presenting test strategy, status, and risks to management.
• Analytical and gap-driven — able to look at a large, multi-platform codebase and identify where quality risk actually lives.
• Eager to learn and self-directed in closing skill or tooling gaps.
