As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated - Lead Manufacturing Engineering Manager - to join our group.
What you'll do
1. Manufacturing Set-Up & Operational Readiness
- Lead facility and production line setup, including layout planning and workflow design.
- Support equipment specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Establish manufacturing processes, SOPs, and engineering documentation.
- Drive production readiness for pilot runs and commercial launch.
- Develop capacity models and ramp-up plans aligned with business growth targets.
2. Systems & Infrastructure Development
- Implement foundational engineering systems (change management, documentation control, maintenance programs).
- Establish preventive and predictive maintenance frameworks.
- Support ERP/MRP implementation from an engineering and operational perspective.
- Define KPIs and reporting structures for engineering and production performance.
3. Continuous Improvement from Day One
- Embed Lean manufacturing principles into plant design and workflows.
- Establish structured problem-solving processes (RCA, 8D, FMEA).
- Design for scalability, efficiency, and quality during early-stage process development.
- Identify early cost-saving and productivity improvement opportunities.
4. Capital Projects & Budget Management
- Manage start-up capital expenditures (CAPEX) including tooling, automation, and infrastructure.
- Develop and control engineering budgets during ramp-up.
- Coordinate contractors, equipment vendors, and external engineering partners.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time to meet go-live milestones.
5. Team Building & Leadership
- Recruit, onboard, and develop the initial engineering team.
- Establish team structure, roles, and performance expectations.
- Foster a culture of accountability, agility, and ownership.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership during critical start-up phases.
6. Quality, Safety & Compliance Framework
- Build quality-by-design processes in collaboration with Quality teams.
- Implement safety programs and ensure regulatory compliance from day one.
- Conduct risk assessments for new processes and equipment.
- Support certifications (ISO, industry-specific standards) as required.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Supply Chain on supplier qualification and material flow.
- Work with Product Development on new product introduction (NPI).
- Collaborate with Finance on cost modelling and capital planning.
- Support customer audits and operational reviews.
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline (Master’s preferred).
- 8–12+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering.
- Proven experience supporting facility start-up, plant expansion, or major production ramp-up.
- Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving tools.
- Experience managing capital projects and vendor relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to build teams and processes from early-stage environments.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.

What We Do
MBRYONICS designs, engineers, and manufactures optical payloads (optical communications and photonics) and optical ground stations for next generation extremely high throughput hybrid Optical/RF satellite systems, optical mesh networks, optical relays, and autonomous optical sensor networks for high precision space domain awareness. We specialise in both the design and MAIT of optical and photonics systems for industrialised series production. MBRYONICS is pioneering the use of and industrialisation of FreeForm optics and photonic integrated circuits for space systems, including inter-satellite communications, optical feeder links, intra-satellite communications (analogue/digital) and microwave photonics applications. We have nearly two decades of experience in research and development on some of the most challenging photonics and optics projects, finding cost effective solutions to new technical challenges. We regularly collaborate and consult with teams that need photonics and optics engineering, design and manufacturing AIT expertise, from early stage path finding to industrial production. Collaborating closely to identify the key problems and opportunities while bringing our years of experience to the table from a multidisciplinary team.
