We are looking for a Lead EHS Engineer to join our LKZ plant and support the continued development of a strong safety culture and robust EHS performance. This role will play a key part in ensuring compliance with Wabtec EHS standards, Republic of Kazakhstan regulatory requirements, and international best practices while promoting a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace.
The LKZ plant is a strategic manufacturing location within Wabtec’s global footprint, supporting railway and transportation solutions for the region. The site operates in a dynamic industrial environment and applies modern manufacturing processes, quality systems, and continuous improvement practices. Job DescriptionWho will you be working with?
You will be part of the LKZ Plant EHS team, working closely with the Plant EHS Manager and cross-functional stakeholders including Operations, HR, Engineering, and external regulatory authorities. The team is responsible for ensuring compliance with Wabtec EHS policies and Kazakhstan legislation while promoting a strong safety culture and continuous improvement across the plant.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the EHS function, you will support the Plant EHS Manager in implementing and continuously improving the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) management system. You will ensure alignment with Wabtec standards, Kazakhstan regulatory requirements, and international best practices. Your role will focus on driving workplace safety, mitigating risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting employee health and well-being. You will actively contribute to building a proactive safety culture and enhancing EHS performance across the LKZ plant.
What do we want to know about you?
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field
- Proven experience in EHS roles within manufacturing or industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of Republic of Kazakhstan EHS legislation and industrial safety requirements
- Experience working with EHS management systems and digital reporting tools
- Ability to independently conduct audits, investigations, and risk assessments
- Legal authorization in Kazakhstan is required
- Proficiency in English is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multinational or matrix organizations
- Familiarity with Wabtec EHS systems (Gensuite, WMS) or similar platforms
- Certification in EHS / Occupational Safety (local or international)
What will your typical day look like?
- Develop and implement the annual EHS Plan and monitor progress against KPIs
- Support deployment and maintenance of Wabtec EHS systems (WMS, Gensuite, Wabtec Learning)
- Implement EHS best practices and international safety standards across the plant
- Conduct daily inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments
- Monitor compliance with safety standards and procedures
- Initiate and manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Support industrial hygiene monitoring, including laboratory tests and measurements
- Organize and oversee annual employee medical examinations
- Promote health, safety culture, and employee well-being initiatives
- Ensure timely reporting, investigation, and root-cause analysis of incidents
- Track incidents, near-misses, and corrective actions in reporting systems
- Prepare internal EHS reports and submit regulatory/statistical reports to authorities
- Define technical specifications for PPE and ensure availability across the plant
- Manage PPE procurement and supply
- Lead PPE assessment and support occupational safety committees
- Manage EHS-related contracts and service providers
- Develop and update EHS procedures, instructions, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with Wabtec standards and Kazakhstan regulations
