Lead Data Engineer

The Lead Data Engineer is a senior technical leadership role within Choreograph's Australia-based team, responsible for driving the strategic development of cloud engineering capabilities and building data infrastructure that delivers real, measurable outcomes for clients. Reporting to the General Manager of Tech and Data, this role sits at the heart of Choreograph's mission to transform the value of data for agencies and clients across the marketing ecosystem. The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of advanced Google Cloud Platform solutions spanning Marketing Analytics, Data Analytics and Marketing Mix Modelling, setting the technical direction and standards that keep Choreograph at the cutting edge of the industry. Success in this role means scalable, resilient data infrastructure, a high-performing engineering team, and data solutions that consistently drive significant commercial value for clients.

  • Leads the design and build of complex cloud engineering solutions across a range of media use cases, from digital analytics and data warehousing through to machine learning, generative AI and marketing mix modelling
  • Collaborates across Business Intelligence, Marketing Science, architecture and project management teams to translate business needs into robust technical specifications and solutions
  • Accountable for championing infrastructure as code, CI/CD best practices and cloud security standards across all data engineering initiatives in Australia
  • Plays a central mentoring and coaching role within the data engineering team, guiding professional development and upholding high standards of collective output
  • Contributes to the continuous evolution of Choreograph's engineering practice by evaluating emerging technologies, staying current with industry trends and advocating for innovation

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive experience designing and building Google Cloud Platform solutions, specifically within Marketing Analytics, Data Analytics and Machine Learning domains
  • Deep expertise in data warehousing principles and ETL development using tools including BigQuery, Dataflow and Cloud Composer
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including Apache Airflow and Apache Beam, and SQL, with a track record of delivering production-grade solutions
  • Hands-on experience with GCP tools including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions and Cloud Composer
  • Thorough knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices, including Terraform and GitHub Actions
  • Solid understanding of networking, security and performance optimisation within cloud environments
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly across cross-functional and matrixed teams, building consensus and managing stakeholder relationships effectively
  • Experience defining and delivering Quality Assurance, User Acceptance Testing and data validation processes

Bonus Points If You Have

  • A Google Cloud Certification such as Professional Data Engineer, Professional ML Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect
  • Knowledge of digital marketing and advertising concepts and tools
  • Experience guiding teams through organisational change and technology adoption processes
  • A background in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related technical discipline
