A key part of the role is owning the performance narrative for Trading, ensuring leaders have a clear view of what is happening, why it is happening and what should happen next.
You will lead cross-squad analysis on the biggest commercial drivers, spot risks and opportunities early, and translate insight into recommendations that drive measurable impact.
The role also plays an important leadership part in raising analytical standards, building capability across the analyst community and scaling best practice across Trading.
What you'll do as a Principal Commercial Analyst:
- Act as a strategic thought partner to Trading leadership, challenging assumptions, sharpening priorities and supporting decision-making on performance, risk and opportunity.
- Own the Trading performance narrative across markets, partners and key commercial levers, ensuring leadership has a clear and consistent view of what is driving results.
- Lead cross-squad analysis on macro topics such as market trends, partner performance, pricing dynamics and external factors, translating complexity into actionable insight.
- Own executive reporting for Trading, including weekly and monthly leadership outputs that are concise, credible and focused on decisions, not just data.
- Proactively identify emerging risks, gaps and opportunities before they are visible at squad level, helping leadership stay ahead of performance shifts.
- Set the standard for analytical excellence by embedding best practice, improving consistency and scaling stronger ways of working across the Commercial Analyst community.
What you'll bring to the team:
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in strategy consulting, commercial analytics, commercial finance, private equity, or performance-focused analytical roles within eCommerce, travel, marketplace or other high-growth digital businesses. Experience in fast-paced environments such as consulting or startups would be highly valued.
- A strong academic background with a third-level qualification in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, IT, Finance or another analytical discipline. Postgraduate or professional qualifications in analytics, finance or strategy are an advantage.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with a clear understanding of P&L drivers, unit economics, pricing dynamics and the commercial levers that influence revenue, margin and conversion performance.
- Advanced technical analytics capability, including expert SQL skills, strong Excel modelling, dashboard development and experience using data visualisation tools such as Tableau to deliver scalable, decision-focused insights.
- Proven ability to structure and solve ambiguous commercial problems by turning broad business questions into clear hypotheses, analytical approaches and actionable recommendations that influence outcomes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align multiple stakeholders, influence decisions and present clear, executive-level narratives to senior leaders, partners and cross-functional teams.
- Experience leading end-to-end commercial analysis with minimal supervision, including performance deep dives, scenario modelling, forecasting and identifying risks and opportunities across complex commercial environments.
- A track record of partnering with commercial and trading teams to shape pricing, growth and optimisation strategies, define testing approaches and quantify business impact through data-led decision-making.
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with a team-first mindset and the ability to work effectively across Trading Squads and the wider analyst community to drive shared outcomes.
- Passion for continuous improvement, including building reusable dashboards and models, scaling self-serve analytics capabilities and driving automation initiatives, including AI-enabled solutions where appropriate.
Skills Required
- 5+ years experience in a commercial analyst or similar role
- 3rd level degree in IT/Mathematics/Statistics/Economics or related field
