Director, PGS and Enterprise Solutions Data Management & Engineering

ROLE SUMMARY
Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) is putting trusted, AI-ready data at the heart of how medicines are made, tested and delivered. PGS & Enterprise Solutions Data Products & Platforms is a newly formed team with a single mission: make our data self-service and accessible, available at the right latency, and contextualized so that its meaning can be interpreted by people and by machines. Spanning Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain, the team owns data strategy and standards, data contextualisation and semantics, data operations, and the converged data platform estate for PGS and Enterprise Solutions - working in deep partnership with PGS business data owners, solution teams and the site network.
The Director, Data Management & Engineering leads the function accountable for data quality and trust across PGS and Enterprise Solutions. The role owns the movement of data from source systems through to the point of consumption, and the assurance that what arrives is complete, accurate, traceable and fit to use.
Partnering closely with PGS Data, Analytics & AI Transformation organisation and Digital solution teams, this function turns trusted, contextualised data into operating reality at scale. This role builds and runs the pipeline estate that carries it, engineers the data quality controls that hold it to account, and certifies data products as trusted. It is the operational spine of an AI-ready data foundation.
The role leads a distributed team, supported by partner resources, and operates in a GxP-regulated environment where evidence of data integrity is a design requirement.
What You Will Achieve
Pipeline build and operations

• Partnering closely with PGS Data, Analytics & AI Transformation organisation and Digital solution teams, set objectives for and lead the design, build and operation of the data pipeline and integration estate connecting source systems to enterprise consumption, including manufacturing, quality, supply chain and ERP sources.
• Own ingestion and integration engineering from source through to MES, historian, and enterprise platforms, delivered to the architecture and integration standards set by Data Strategy & Architecture.
• Establish and maintain DataOps practice across the estate: release management, environment control, change and version management, and automated deployment.
• Own run-state performance, including monitoring, incident management, service levels and on-call arrangements, working with partner resources where the work is outsourced.

Data quality and certification

• Lead data quality engineering across the estate: rule definition and enforcement, anomaly detection, remediation, and measurement.
• Own the lineage and evidence chain from source to consumption, ensuring ALCOA+ principles are demonstrably met and that data products can withstand regulatory scrutiny.
• Own the technical certification of data products into PGS Trusted Data, acting as an operational interface to the PGS Data, Analytics & AI Transformation organisation.
• Establish observability across pipelines and data products so that failures, drift and degradation are detected before consumers are affected.

Regulatory and compliance

• Ensure all pipelines and data products meet 21 CFR Part 11, EU GMP Annex 11, GAMP 5 and applicable data integrity requirements.
• Maintain readiness for evolving regulatory expectations on AI, including demonstrable lineage from source to decision output.

Working across the function

• Work with Data Platforms team on the boundary between the platform environment and the flow through it, ensuring that interface is explicit and understood by both teams.
• Partner with Delivery & Operations Excellence on demand shaping and sequencing, and with Domain Data Solution Leads to define and meet the measures agreed with their business counterparts.
• Set the direction for how the function aligns to enterprise-central capabilities - Enterprise Data Fabric (Loom), AI/ML platform, Cyber and OT Security - and represent PGS and Enterprise Solutions requirements into those forums.

Leadership

• Build, lead and develop a distributed engineering team across multiple geographies, including recruitment, capability development and succession planning.
• Manage partner and contractor capacity,including the balance between colleague and contracted delivery.
• Represent the function with senior stakeholders across Digital, PGS and the Chief Data Officer organisation.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of progressive experience, including 3+ years leading technical teams (7+ years with an advanced degree).
• Demonstrated experience owning data pipeline or integration estates at enterprise scale, including run-state accountability.
• Strong grounding in data quality engineering, lineage and observability practice.
• Experience leading distributed teams across multiple geographies and time zones.
• Experience managing partner or vendor delivery alongside internal teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical positions to senior non-technical stakeholders. Proven ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across business and technology organizations.
• Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a GxP-regulated manufacturing environment, with working knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11, EU GMP Annex 11, GAMP 5 and ALCOA+.
• Exposure to data product thinking, data contracts, and certification or trust frameworks.
• Familiarity with manufacturing and operational data sources: historians, MES, LIMS, SCADA, and ERP.
• Experience with modern data platform tooling, including cloud data warehousing, streaming, and orchestration.
• Understanding of ISA-95 and ISA-88 and their application to manufacturing data.
• Experience standing up or materially reshaping a function rather than inheriting a settled one.

• Global cultural awareness; comfort operating across time zones. Some travel expected.

Work Location Assignment: Hybrid
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $176,600.00 to $294,300.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
