Are you passionate about designing complex baggage handling systems for airports worldwide? Vanderlande is looking for a Layout Engineer to join our Airports Project Engineering Department, responsible for the design, specification, and commissioning of systems across Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.

As a Layout Engineer, you will work closely with mechanical project engineers to translate sales designs into detailed engineering solutions. You will lead or support a team of layout engineers, balancing abstract conceptual thinking with attention to design details. Your work ensures that systems fit seamlessly into the building environment, aligning with structural and building services designs. Creativity, flexibility, and strong teamwork are key to your success.

You will oversee the total scope of layout work, prepare design submittals, manage models and tools, and ensure the system design meets project requirements while considering functionality, cost, and constructability.

Your responsibilities

  • Create detailed 3D models using BIM software (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks) to develop accurate digital representations of systems.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams to ensure design accuracy.
  • Update and modify models based on updated plans and specifications.
  • Maintain and contribute to BIM standards and best practices across projects.
  • Assist with scheduling, cost estimation, and material tracking using BIM tools.
  • Ensure the system layout integrates with mechanical, electrical, and building services.
  • Lead or guide a team of layout engineers, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or ‘MBO’ degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Strong proficiency in BIM software, including Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Solid understanding of material handling systems and interfacing with buildings and MEP systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and communication abilities.
  • Able to think conceptually while managing detailed designs and project deliverables.
  • BIM software certifications are a plus.
