LatAm Derivatives Attorney
Legal counsel responsible for managing legal risk across the Mizuho Americas fixed income trading and sales unit
- Supporting Mizuho U.S. swap dealer and broker dealer business lines including swaps, foreign exchange, cleared products, credit, and repo with specific focus supporting Latin America business lines and projects.
- Negotiating and drafting a broad range of complex trading and financing agreements for derivatives (e.g., ISDAs, CSAs), clearing and execution, securities financing, tri-party custodian agreements, and bespoke products, with concentration on Latin American clients and business.
- Researching and advising on regulations affecting the business and related legal issues and other specific jurisdictional concerns for Latin American countries.
- Assisting with new projects, including knowledge management, establishment of standards and templates, and supporting Latin America business areas.
- Liaising with external counsel and other external advisers as needed.
- Collaborating with other teams across Mizuho, including Sales and Trading, Credit, Operations, and Compliance.
- Advising desks and compliance on best practices relating to various aspects of fixed income business lines including swap dealer regulations, reporting, clearing and uncleared margin rules.
Qualification:
- Law degree from an accredited law school
- 3-5+ years of experience in a derivative/corporate team at a law firm (preferred) or financial company
- Spanish and/or Portuguese professional fluency
- Experienced with drafting and negotiating trading and financing agreements
- Reliable and flexible team player with a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and collaborative approach
- Organized self-starter with project management skills and excellent attention to detail
- Strong and concise communicator; skilled writer and negotiator
- Able to handle competing priorities in a challenging, fast-paced environment
- Highly analytical and pragmatic thinker who can articulate well-reasoned legal arguments to stakeholders
- Familiarity with derivatives, financing, and related regulations (e.g., Dodd-Frank) is preferred
- Experience with netting opinions is a plus
The expected base salary ranges from $175,000.00 - $225,000.00. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.#LI-Hybrid#LI-NR1
