Job Summary:
The John-Peter Laboratory, in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of British Columbia will be looking to hire a Laboratory Assistant to join the team.
Organizational Status:
The Laboratory Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. John-Peter. The lab focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that drive lipid trafficking between organelles. Combining genetic, biochemical, imaging and lipidomics-based approaches, the team investigates how these lipid transport processes contribute to membrane biogenesis, organelle identity, and cellular homeostasis.
Work Performed:
Assists with routine laboratory tasks, including ordering reagents, preparing media, and performing associated procedures.
Provides administrative support such as tracking expenses and filing expense reports.
Assists students with specific experimental tasks, including cloning and biochemical experiments.
Performs other related duties as required, consistent with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.
Consequence of Error/Judgement:
Not exercised at this level.
Supervision Received:
Works under direct supervision, from oral instructions and to established procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with maintaining day-to-day operations in the lab. High degree of motivation, enthusiasm, organization, and initiative. Ability to work independently and with other lab personnel. Effective oral and written communication. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of experiments/data analysis.
