About the Position:

Responsible for production chemistry that maintains a high quality and output in the Wet Chemistry digestion lab.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Capable of managing workflow in a time efficient and quality conscious manner.

  • Capable of working independent of supervision and perform troubleshooting as needed.

  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.

  • Perform daily calibration of equipment, logging records as required and has clear understanding of pass/fail criteria.

  • Provide cleaning of equipment such as Teflon lab wares, fume hoods, hot plates, hot blocks, furnaces, balances, etc.

  • Prepare reagents as per SOP for various analytical procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns to the Manager/Supervisor.

  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies.

  • Use Microsoft Excel and Word to create written reports as needed.

  • Additional duties as required by Manager or Supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Organized, highly motivated, quality oriented, and capable of managing time efficiently and quality conscious manner.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment either independently or as a part of the team.

  • Good manual dexterity and mechanical skills.

  • Good written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Good MS Office skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Chemical Science or Technology or a related field preferred.

  • Completion of some post-secondary courses in Chemistry or a related field required.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 20kg (45lbs).

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per day.

  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.

  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.

  • An estimated hourly pay of $22.77 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
