As Laboratory Coordinator, you will provide administrative and technical oversight to your assigned laboratory. You will be responsible for supervision of the daily operations, including the personnel performing testing and reporting test results. A caregiver in this position works evenings, 3:00pm—11:30pm. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. 

  • Participate in the recruiting process, orientating and training, and Performance Evaluation of personnel in assigned area. 

  • Monitor laboratory operations according to all Clinic and laboratory policies and procedures, and counsel and document per established corrective action policies. 

  • Review QC and other Quality metrics daily, monthly, and as requested by the Laboratory Director, Technical Consultant, or Technical Supervisor. 

  • Under direction of the laboratory supervisor, assist in creating and managing staff schedules, including PTO and FLMA requests. 

  • Assure that six- and 12-month competency assessments are completed and documented on all personnel by qualified assessors and that competencies include the six parameters specified in the SOP; may perform competencies on high complexity testing but only provide oversight on moderate complexity. 

  • Resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established either by the Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor. 

  • Notify Lab Director, Technical Consultant, or Technical Supervisor immediately whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications and take remedial actions. 

  • Provide troubleshooting oversight and ensure that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning. 

  • Perform duties of Testing Personnel as needed, maintain competency and comply with all policies and procedures. 

  • Assist in inventory management, including the ordering of supplies necessary to perform all aspects of the testing process. 

  • May function as an educator, providing instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and the application of laboratory test protocols. 

  • Under the direction of the Medical Director or Technical Supervisor, assist in the selection, validation and verification of new assays. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from a four-year college or university (diploma and/or transcripts must be provided for verification) 

  • Two years of laboratory training or experience, or both in non-waived testing. 

  • Demonstrates technical and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform clinical laboratory functions assigned. 

  • Or 

  • Meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel. See Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, § 493.1489 Standard; High Complexity Testing Personnel Qualifications. 

  • Demonstrates technical and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform clinical laboratory functions assigned. 

  • Three years of laboratory training or experience OR both in non-waived testing; A signed, official letter from the facility or organization detailing the dates and laboratory discipline experience and training if clinical laboratory training and experience occurred at an outside facility 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist, such as MLS (ASCP) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) eligible 

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope.
  • The ability to distinguish colors.
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time.
  • Light lifting may be required.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
