Sagis Diagnostics is seeking a Full Time Lab Aide

  • Monday through Friday, 12:30 pm to 9:00 am. ONSITE Houston, TX 77092

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Digital Pathology Lab Aide I is an entry-level position responsible for the core operational functions of the digital pathology workflow, including slide archive management, scanner operation and maintenance, first-level troubleshooting, and digital quality control.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Slide Management — Slide Filing & Retrieving Archived Slides

  • Understanding the slide archive structure and storage locations.  Filing slides as they are completed by the pathologist.
  • Locating and retrieving archived slides as requested by pathologists or other appropriate requestor.
  • Correct re-filing of requested archived slides.

 

Slide Digitization Tracking — Progress Documentation

  • Record new slide IDs for scanning
  • Perform and document any given special instructions
  • Record all quality issues

 

Scanner Operations — Loading & Unloading Digital Slide Scanners

  • Hardware orientation: tray/rack slots, cassette deck, input/output drawers
  • Slide preparation and tray/rack loading (correct orientation, labeling, broken slide protocol)
  • Confirming scan completion and reviewing thumbnail preview
  • Unloading completed trays/racks and slide disposition

 

Digital Slide Scanner Maintenance

  • Daily and weekly maintenance checklist as outlined by the laboratory protocol.
  • Calibration checks, focus verification, and filter/optics inspection per manufacturer schedule
  • Maintenance log documentation as outline by laboratory protocol.

 

Scanner Troubleshooting — Error Resolution

  • Common error codes: identification and first-response actions
  • Slide/rack jam or detection failure: safe recovery procedure
  • Focus failure and image quality errors: retry and manual override workflow
  • Network/Image viewer software connectivity errors: understanding escalation paths
  • Incident documentation per laboratory protocol

 

Digital QC Process

  • Understanding QC pass/fail criteria.
  • Rescanning and broken/damaged slide protocols, including documentation per laboratory protocol
  • Advancing QC-cleared cases and understanding queue placement in laboratory LIS.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy
  • Ability to follow detailed processes and compliance checklists exactly as written
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while knowing when to ask questions
  • Ability to balance accuracy with reasonable productivity (detail-oriented without excessive overthinking)

 

Preferred:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree
  • Histology, laboratory or clinical support experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Teams

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Laboratory environment with standard and specialized equipment (computer, label printers, barcode scanners, digital pathology scanners, phone)
  • Requires sitting for extended periods while filing slides and reviewing digital images on a computer monitor
  • Requires walking between multiple buildings and across the street to access different storage areas
  • Lifting stacks of slide trays and carrying them to different work areas throughout the day, up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to stand, bend, and reach to load slides on scanners and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues

GROWTH OPPORTUNITY

This role is designed as an entry point into the laboratory field. The Laboratory Aide – Digital Pathology will receive training on slide filing, compliance standards, quality control, operation and maintenance of digital scanners, and system troubleshooting. As the employee demonstrates proficiency and interest, there may be opportunities to expand responsibilities and advance to an elevated tier of this position, which would include exposure to additional laboratory functions, such as advanced troubleshooting, vendor escalations, and support for departmental regulatory and improvement initiatives.
