The Key Account Manager Biopharma (KAM) is the primary relationship owner for a set of strategic accounts in UK and Ireland covering the Leica Microsystems Life Science portfolio (systems, software and services) relevant to Biopharma and Clinical Research workflows. The KAM builds and maintains relationships across all levels of the account, with a focus on key decision makers and top-tier Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). The KAM is accountable for delivering profitable growth (orders, revenue and margin) in the assigned accounts through account planning, opportunity management and cross-functional execution with Product Specialists, Applications, Service and Marketing. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Own the account strategy and territory plan for UK and Ireland, aligned to Biopharma and Clinical Research priorities (e.g., process development, QC/QA, translational research, imaging core facilities).
Build and expand long-term executive relationships and a strong KOL network; map stakeholders, influence structures and buying centers.
Drive opportunity identification, qualification and pipeline management across the portfolio; ensure accurate funnel hygiene and forecasting (e.g., Salesforce).
Lead the end-to-end sales process: customer discovery, solution design (with Product Specialists/Applications), value-based proposals, quoting, negotiation and commercial closing.
Coordinate cross-functionally (Product Specialists, Applications, Service, Marketing) to deliver best-in-class customer experience (demos, evaluations, implementation handover, service escalation) and execute account penetration/retention and ABM activities with measurable follow-up.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Bioengineering, Biotechnology or related scientific field; advanced degree (MSc/PhD) or MBA is a plus.
Experience in Key Account Management / Strategic Sales within life science tools, Biopharma, Clinical Research or adjacent high-tech markets.
Experience selling into Biopharma environments (e.g., biologics, cell & gene therapy, vaccines) and/or regulated laboratories (GxP).
Proven ability to navigate complex organizations and engage stakeholders across scientific, operational, procurement and executive functions; strong collaboration skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority.
Strong business acumen with a consultative, value-selling approach; analytical and structured way of working; experience with CRM/ERP tools (e.g., Salesforce and SAP) preferred.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Knowledge of microscopy/imaging workflows applied to Biopharma and Clinical Research (e.g., high-content imaging, digital pathology, image analysis, automation).
Travel Requirements: Up to 50% travel across UK and Ireland (customer visits, meetings, events).
