Halter is on a mission to unlock more productive and sustainable farming and ranching.
The Role
As a Junior Reliability Engineer, you will diagnose and process returned hardware, provide detailed fault analysis, and ensure effective communication with engineering and operations teams to improve product reliability.
Summary Generated by Built In
At Halter, we’re building a world-first system that transforms how farmers manage their land and animals, and our hardware sits at the heart of that experience. Every collar and tower in the field needs to perform reliably, every day, in tough farm environments. As we scale quickly, it’s critical that we maintain quality and move fast when things go wrong.

As part of our Fleet Operations team, you’ll play a key role in making sure returned collars, towers, and accessories are processed, diagnosed, and understood with urgency and precision. You’ll take ownership of the full returns workflow, from intake through to hands-on debugging and detailed fault analysis, ensuring we create tight, high-quality feedback loops into engineering and operations. This role is essential to enabling Halter’s growth without scaling manufacturing, design, or quality issues alongside it.

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re methodical, curious, and enjoy getting to the bottom of tricky problems, whether that’s electronic fault-finding, mechanical failures, or patterns emerging across returned devices. Your work will directly influence how we improve the product, prevent repeat issues, and deliver an increasingly reliable experience for farmers.

This role is all about supporting the processing and diagnosis of returned hardware (collars, towers and accessories) to ensure quick, high-quality feedback loops into our engineering and operations teams. This role is important to enable our growth without growing any manufacturing, design or quality issues.

  • Perform hands-on debugging and detailed fault analysis (electronic and mechanical).Document observations, root causes, and recommended actions in the returns system.
  • Collaborate with logistics/admin teams to ensure accurate tracking and processing of hardware and ensure high urgency collars are returned and diagnosed quickly.
  • Provide clear, timely reporting of findings to engineering and operations teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of testing methods and diagnostic processes.

Skills, Experience & Competencies

  • Degree or equivalent experience in electronics, mechatronics, or related field.
  • Strong practical electronics skills (fault-finding, measurement tools, circuit analysis).
  • Methodical and detail-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • Comfortable working with data capture tools and basic analysis.
  • Curious and proactive in identifying root causes and patterns.
  • Able to balance speed with accuracy in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong communicator - able to clearly document and escalate issues.
  • Works well with cross-functional teams.
