Kpler is seeking a talented and motivated, Junior software engineer to join our engineering team. This role is for the Cargo Analytics team, which is responsible for the distribution of our core, client-facing data, delivering critical insights into the global maritime commodities market. We provide access to our data through our front-end, APIs and SDKs to enable our clients to seamlessly integrate us into their workflows.

Your mission

• Get up to speed with our domain, working independently on some front end tasks, with support on complex back end/API tasks.
• Work alongside other engineers, taking responsibility for the development and implementation of both front-end and back-end solutions based on project requirements and design specifications.
• Help to optimise system performance, maintain features, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability.
• Demonstrate strong analytical and debugging skills with a proactive approach to learning.

You'll be a match if you

• Have hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks, such as Vue.js (using TypeScript or JavaScript).
• Knowledge of front-end testing frameworks like Jest or Cypress to ensure code quality and maintainable test suites.
• Experience or exposure to working with RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL for building back-end services and how the front-end interacts with APIs (Node.js, Python or JVM languages are preferred).
• Comfortable working with Git, code reviews, and Agile methodologies.
• Have an understanding of containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Are eager to learn new languages and technologies.

It will be even better if you

• Have worked with Scala or Python.
• Familiarity with Kafka or other message-broker technologies
• Exposure to Elasticsearch
• Have worked with AWS (or another cloud provider), using Terraform
