Job Description

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The Office of Management, Analysis, and Planning (OMAP) is seeking a motivated and skilled Data Analyst to join our team. This role supports data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate will possess good analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to work with data to identify key information and assist in informing initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Collect, clean, and analyze large and complex datasets from various sources.
- Contribute to the development and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor
department performance.
- Perform descriptive statistical analysis on data.
- Conduct statistical analysis, including descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing,
regression analysis, and other relevant methods.
- Support the creation of reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate data findings
to stakeholders.
- Help identify trends and patterns in data to contribute to decision-making and highlight areas
for improvement.
Data Visualization:
- Create clear and informative data visualizations using tools such as Dash and Tableau.
- Communicate data effectively through visual representations.
Data Exploration & Support:
- Assist in exploring data for insights and potential relationships.
- Support more senior analysts in data-related tasks.
Data Management & Quality:
- Assist in maintaining automated reports and dashboards.
- Participate in data validation and cleansing processes to ensure data quality.
- Contribute to the implementation of data governance policies and procedures.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
