Hello UW team member!
Developing your career at UW is something we feel passionately about so we're delighted that you're exploring opportunities across the business.
If you're interested in the below role, please ensure you've reviewed our internal application criteria and spoken to your line manager.
Please note we require you to meet the qualification/experience requirements below to be considered for this role.
We put people first. It’s all about you..
Are you a detail-oriented problem solver looking to kickstart your career in Business Analysis? We are looking for a Junior BA who is ambitious, tenacious, and ready to dive into the complex world of energy and technology. You don’t need to have all the answers yet, but you do need the drive to find them.
Minimum requirements
- Foundational Analytical Skills: Demonstrates a basic understanding of business analysis methodologies (e.g., familiarity with BPMN or process mapping) and a strong ambition to develop expertise in identifying process improvements, uncovering gaps, and driving continuous optimisation
- IT & Systems Literacy: A strong interest in how IT systems work. You should understand the basic Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) - how a project moves from design to build to test
- Curiosity & Tenacity: You are a "self-starter" who doesn't give up at the first hurdle. You enjoy taking a big problem and exploring different ways to solve it
- Communication: Ability to take complex information and simplify it for others. You’re comfortable asking questions and facilitating conversations to reach the right outcomes
- Academic or Early Career Background: Ideally a degree in a relevant field (Business, IT, Engineering) and 1-2 years of experience in a professional environment (consultancy or IT-focused roles are a plus)
- Energy Interest (Bonus): You don’t need to be an expert in the Energy Industry yet, but an interest in the UK energy landscape and net-zero technology (Smart Metering, Settlements, Renewables) will help you hit the ground running.
We work together. Your team and the people you will work with…
The Commercial Energy team at UW is accountable for driving the optimisation of our energy P&L. You will report to the Energy Programme Manager and work in a dynamic, "consultancy-style" environment where you might be bounced between different project streams - from data migration to business readiness. You'll be surrounded by experts who will support your growth as you help us future-proof our energy supply.
We deliver progress. What you’ll do and how you will make an impact.
As a Junior Business Analyst, you will support our most critical energy and metering initiatives. Working closely with the Program Manager and Senior BAs, you will help translate business needs into clear documentation. You will be a key link between our technical teams and the wider business, learning how to bridge the gap between "what we need" and "how we build it."
What you’ll do:
- Requirement Support: Assist in gathering and documenting business requirements for energy industry changes
- Process Mapping: Map "As-Is" and "To-Be" operational processes to help our teams identify gaps and work more efficiently
- Data Exploration: Help analyse industry data flows to ensure our system builds align with market standards
- Documentation: Produce and maintain clear project documentation, including user stories and functional specifications
- Testing & Quality: Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by defining basic acceptance criteria and checking that solutions actually work for the end-user
- Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate with subject matter experts to gather information and provide updates on project progress.
