Job DescriptionThe Legal & Compliance role is responsible for minimizing risk, fraud, claims, and cargo theft while ensuring high levels of service and operational efficiency. The team member will work closely with our carrier sales teams across all terminals to enforce best practices and drive continuous improvements in our carrier selection and compliance processes.
Primary Responsibilities
Carrier Compliance Management
Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive carrier compliance policies and procedures designed to reduce claims, fraud, and cargo theft while maintaining superior service standards
Technology & Tool Oversight
Manage all carrier compliance platforms and tools, including Highway, DAT, Carrier 411, Carrier Assure, and Happy Robot. Continuously evaluate and recommend new solutions to enhance cost-effectiveness, speed, and reliability in the carrier vetting process
High-Risk Freight Oversight
Ensure all specialized freight—including high-value, theft-prone, in-bond, cross-border, and oversize/overweight shipments—is assigned exclusively to qualified carriers with established protocols. Maintain and actively manage a roster of contracted carriers approved for specialized freight handling
Incident Investigation & Reporting
Lead comprehensive investigations for all freight claims exceeding $20,000. Prepare detailed written reports that identify root causes and provide actionable recommendations to prevent future occurrences
Process Audits & Training
Conduct targeted audits of carrier sales procedures across the organization to verify compliance with internal policies. Communicate findings and promote operational consistency through a monthly best practices newsletter distributed to carrier sales teams
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Build and maintain strong relationships with terminal leaders and carrier sales representatives. Serve as a trusted advisor and active partner in the day-to-day operations of carrier sales
Continuous Improvement
Champion initiatives that increase operational efficiency, reduce risk exposure, and enhance the effectiveness of carrier sales operations. Stay informed on industry trends and evolving compliance regulations
Experience and Education Requirements
2+ years of professional experience in compliance, legal, or risk management, preferably within transportation or logistics
Demonstrated expertise in freight claims analysis, carrier vetting protocols, and transportation risk assessment
Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent legal qualification
Core Competencies
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex compliance matters clearly
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Meticulous attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical capabilities

Founded in 2011, Circle Logistics is a privately held third-party logistics (3PL) company based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They move approximately 33,000 loads per month across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico using an asset-based fleet and a vetted carrier network.
