POSITION SUMMARY
Sony Corporation of America (SCA) is seeking a Junior Accountant to join Sony Corporate Information Security Division (CISD), organization located in the Northern Virginia area, just outside of Washington, DC. This position will report to the Accounting Manager and be a part of the team responsible for monthly financial close and reporting, account reconciliation, accounts payable, inter-company billing, actual vs budget variance analysis, procurements, fixed asset and prepaid expense management and interaction with SCA accounting team in New York.
This position requires basic to advanced Excel skills such as creating and editing spreadsheets, utilizing formulas and database tools to create complex functions using pivot table and database queries, utilizing VLOOKUP, IF function and applying data validation. This position requires strong communication and analytical skills. Duties performed can be complex, requiring exercise of judgment, initiative and sound knowledge of accounting principles and company/department policies and procedures.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee general ledger accounts related to prepaid expense accounts. Create and validate recurring entries based on contract term and allocation sheet. Conduct thorough analysis to ensure accurate postings. Prepare Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss(P/L) analysis related to prepaid accounts and distribute reports to stakeholders for review. Gather and consolidate data for the annual budget and forecast pertaining to prepaid accounts.

Prepare monthly intercompany billing, record, and update billing schedule. Perform reconciliation of accounts receivable and follow up on payments. Identify and investigate discrepancies and working collaboratively with other SCA departments to resolve open A/R items.

Participate in month end close activities including preparing journal entries and updating monthly financial reports. Ensure month-end close transactions are aligned with budget and forecast.

Collaborate with procurement and Account payables team to validate invoices, and ensure appropriate coding of general ledger account, Internal Order, and budget codes.

Provide support for Ad-hoc accounting digital transformation projects and participate in user testing when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION
Your qualifications and experience should include:

Minimum 1 year accounting experience, previous relevant experience with SAP preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel required and working knowledge with procurement process preferred.

Knowledge of finance, accounting, and financial reporting including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Excellent critical thinking and organizational skills

Superior attention to detail

Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, and in both independent and collaborative environments.

Sound judgment and a high level of integrity and professionalism.

Annual incentive bonus
The target annualized base salary range for this position is $63,000 to $68,000. The individual will be paid hourly and eligible for overtime. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
