The Opportunity
As a dedicated Java Full Stack Software Engineer Senior, you will join a dynamic, startup-minded team within the Investment Experience Technology organization at USAA, part of the Technology group. As a senior engineer on our new investment services platform, you will design and implement high-impact solutions. Collaborate with a strong team to deliver scalable, high-quality software. You’ll work with a modern tech stack—including Go, Java, APIs, OpenShift, and a wide range of USAA technologies—to help build the next generation of investment solutions. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in San Antonio; TX or Plano; TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Design, develop, code, and test complex tactical as well as strategic technical solutions across many technologies, including emerging technologies, to integrate existing systems and tools, collaborating with Engineers or Architects within their team/department and occasionally outside of their domain.
Lead code/design reviews and communicates updates to stakeholders with team to ensure smooth daily operations and accurate planning.
Develop complex algorithms to solve business needs.
Investigates and resolves complex application and system technical problems and production issues by directing troubleshooting of end-to-end solutions.
Mentors engineers, coaches engineers on design, development, and maintenance of systems; Reviews teammates' code.
Influence and help shape the future of their specific domain's architecture and quality standards and understand, identify, measure across entire solution.
Identify system performance issues, to include technical debt, and optimize solution
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
6+ years of software development experience with deep technical expertise in enterprise application development.
Strong proficiency in Java and modern software engineering principles, with experience troubleshooting complex technical issues.
Experience with cloud technologies, secure coding practices, and enterprise-scale application development.
Enterprise-level experience with Java Full Stack development, batch processing, and Groovy.
Deep experience designing and implementing scalable API-first solutions using Spring Boot, REST APIs, Docker containers, and enterprise integration patterns.
Strong experience designing secure, scalable, resilient, and high-performing enterprise applications while accounting for non-functional requirements.
Strong experience with OpenShift, AWS, cloud infrastructure, and cloud-native application design.
Deep experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures using Kafka, data streaming technologies, and asynchronous integration patterns.
Experience with modern engineering practices including TDD, automated testing, Git, GitLab CI, Maven, and Gradle.
Experience with Control-M, batch processing, data integration, automated data processing, Snowflake, and enterprise data pipelines.
Experience with workflow and BPM technologies such as Flowable or EWL.
Experience with solution design, systems integration, and enterprise architecture principles.
Experience with web application integration and DocuSign integration.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $114,080- $218,030.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
