Job Description
The IT Business Systems Analyst Intern supports the Technology team by helping understand business needs, improve processes, test solutions, maintain documentation, and provide day-to-day support for the systems used across Lighthouse Electric. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience connecting business operations with technology in a construction-focused environment.
· Assist with gathering and documenting business requirements through conversations with employees, process owners, and Technology team members.
· Help map current business processes, identify pain points, and recommend practical opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and user experience.
· Support the configuration, testing, validation, and rollout of business system enhancements under the guidance of analysts, developers, and other Technology team members.
· Create and maintain clear system, process, testing, and training documentation.
· Assist with troubleshooting user questions and system issues, including documenting findings, reproducing problems, and helping coordinate resolution.
· Support data review, reporting, and basic analysis to help verify accuracy, identify trends, and support business decisions.
· Participate in meetings with operational teams to learn how technology supports estimating, project delivery, field operations, finance, human resources, and other business functions.
· Assist with user acceptance testing, including preparing test scenarios, recording results, tracking issues, and confirming expected outcomes.
· Help develop training materials and support user adoption of new or improved processes and systems.
· Follow established Technology team practices for prioritization, change management, security, documentation, and release coordination.
· Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor and maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required:
· No prior professional IT experience required.
· Experience completing school, volunteer, or personal projects that involved business analysis, process improvement, data analysis, information systems, or technology is acceptable.
Preferred:
· Previous internship, part-time, or project experience in a business, technology, construction, manufacturing, or project-based environment.
· Experience working with spreadsheets, reports, process maps, testing, documentation, or business software.
EDUCATION
Required:
· Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Construction Management, or a related field.
Preferred:
· Completion of coursework in systems analysis, business processes, databases, project management, data analysis, or software development.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Strong curiosity about how businesses operate and how technology can improve day-to-day work.
· Ability to listen, ask thoughtful questions, organize information, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical employees.
· Basic proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
· Strong attention to detail and willingness to document work accurately.
· Ability to manage assigned tasks, communicate progress, and ask for help when needed.
· Basic analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break larger issues into manageable parts.
· Ability to handle company and employee information with appropriate confidentiality.
· Willingness to learn new software, business processes, and construction industry terminology.
