What will you do as an IT Support Specialist?

As part of the Business Support Services Team, the IT Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining and optimizing end-user workstations, network performance, and company-supported applications across a primarily Microsoft Windows-based local area network (LAN) in Billings, MT. This role involves troubleshooting technical issues, supporting production equipment, and ensuring secure and efficient IT operations. This position is on-site at our Billings, MT location but will require 20–30% travel to other company locations for on-site support, system installations, and training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer end-user workstations and support end-user activities utilizing TCP/IP on a primarily Microsoft Windows-based LAN.
  • Install, configure, and maintain personal computers, networking equipment, production IT systems, and peripheral devices.
  • Investigate and resolve user issues with hardware, software, networking, and production-related IT systems.
  • Implement security measures, manage firewall configurations, and ensure data integrity.
  • Support and troubleshoot IT systems related to manufacturing equipment, including system integrations and connectivity.
  • Manage Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and provide troubleshooting for VoIP phone systems to ensure secure and efficient IT operations.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to staff for optimized use of IT resources.
  • Maintain hardware/software inventories, licensing records, and system documentation.
  • Assist other departments as needed, ensuring seamless IT operations across all company locations.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) and two years of related experience, OR four years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience supporting production environments preferred.
  • PLC/Industrial control network experience is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work in an office environment; sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods; may utilize a computer terminal for prolonged periods.
  • Work involves walking, talking and hearing using hands to handle, feel or operate objects. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus when using computer terminal

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is on-site in Billings, MT. 
  • Work in office and production environments, requiring flexibility to support manufacturing equipment and IT systems. The noise level in the work environment can be moderately noisy due to manufacturing equipment in operation. 
  • Must be willing to travel to other company locations approximately 20-30% to assist with installations, troubleshooting and training and attend out-of-town training and/or seminars when not on-site.
  • Working hours vary between 5 am and 6 pm depending upon schedules and the season, Monday through Friday. 40 hours expected per week. Additional hours or weekends may be required in order to take advantage of off-peak system usage times for upgrades, testing, and installs that are necessary for this position. After-hours on-call support on a rotating schedule.
