IT Specialist

Openings: 1 full-time position | Location: New London, Connecticut (on-site) | Status: Key Personnel

Position Summary

The IT Specialist supports authorized museum information technology, gallery and theater systems, public-facing connectivity, and digital infrastructure. The role maintains reliable, secure, high-uptime systems within the Contractor’s assigned scope and follows Coast Guard cybersecurity, access-control, and approval requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain assigned internal and public networks, including VLAN, VPN, Wi-Fi, workstation, and approved cloud/hybrid systems support.

  • Perform approved backup, restoration, data-protection, hardware-maintenance, and incident-support tasks within delegated authority.

  • Process and track authorized account, permission, onboarding, and off-boarding requests through Government-approved procedures; do not grant access outside delegated authority.

  • Provide technical support for gallery, theater, presentation, streaming, lighting-control, and approved museum-event systems.

  • Work with the AV Media Specialist and Exhibits Maintenance Technician to sustain digital displays, sensors, interactive components, and high-bandwidth media distribution.

  • Maintain the visitor Wi-Fi experience while preserving required separation from protected internal resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.

  • Three to six years of systems-administration or technical-support experience; museum, library, gallery, public-attraction, or other high-uptime experience is preferred.

  • An industry-standard certification such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+.

  • Proficiency supporting Windows and macOS environments, network infrastructure, cybersecurity controls, cloud/SaaS platforms, and varied end-user and AV-adjacent hardware.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS, Azure, Google Workspace Administration, digital-asset-management, disaster-recovery, or high-availability public Wi-Fi experience.

  • AV integration experience, including multi-screen video, interactive touch tables, theater systems, or digital signage.

  • Ability to communicate technical risks and operating instructions clearly to non-technical staff and volunteers.
