Summary:
In this role, you will lead the governance, prioritization, and optimization of a large, complex portfolio of IT initiatives that support enterprise strategic objectives. You will serve as a strategic partner to senior business and IT leaders, ensuring technology investments align with organizational priorities, business outcomes, and long-term growth strategies. You will oversee portfolio performance, demand management, resource planning, financial oversight, and portfolio governance while driving execution excellence across programs and projects. You will provide leadership to project and program management teams, facilitate executive governance forums, and enable informed decision-making through data-driven portfolio insights, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the governance, oversight, and optimization of a large-scale enterprise IT portfolio, ensuring alignment between technology investments, business objectives, and strategic priorities.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve portfolio management frameworks, governance processes, standards, methodologies, and controls that promote transparency, accountability, and delivery excellence.
- Oversee enterprise demand intake, business case evaluation, prioritization, and portfolio planning processes to balance strategic value, risk, cost, resource capacity, and organizational objectives.
- Partner with senior business and IT leaders to evaluate investment opportunities, establish portfolio priorities, and drive alignment between technology initiatives and corporate strategy.
- Lead enterprise-wide resource planning, capacity management, and workforce optimization efforts across IT teams, shared services, and external partners to support strategic initiatives.
- Manage portfolio financials, including budgeting, forecasting, investment oversight, resource allocation, and benefits realization to maximize business value and portfolio performance.
- Establish and monitor portfolio performance metrics, executive dashboards, and reporting that provide visibility into portfolio health, delivery outcomes, financial performance, resource utilization, risks, and value realization.
- Facilitate executive portfolio reviews, steering committees, and governance forums while providing data-driven recommendations that support funding, prioritization, resource allocation, and strategic decision-making.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by communicating portfolio performance, risks, dependencies, trade-offs, and opportunities while enabling informed decision-making.
- Lead, mentor, and develop project and program managers while driving adoption of enterprise delivery methodologies, governance practices, reporting standards, tools, and best practices.
- Conduct portfolio health assessments, proactively manage portfolio-level risks and dependencies, and lead recovery efforts for high-risk programs through structured corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Relevant degree preferred. Advance degree in Business Management, Information Management, Project Management or related discipline is a plus.
- 7 or more years of relevant experience required.
- Experience leading enterprise portfolio management, program management, or project management functions within complex organizations.
- Experience facilitating executive governance forums and presenting portfolio performance, financials, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale technology portfolios, including strategic planning, demand management, investment prioritization, resource planning, governance, and financial oversight.
- Strong knowledge of portfolio governance frameworks, portfolio management best practices, and project and program delivery methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall approaches.
- Proven ability to align technology investments with business strategy while influencing stakeholders and driving consensus across executive leadership teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with experience developing executive dashboards, scorecards, performance metrics, and portfolio reporting.
- Demonstrated success managing portfolio-level risks, dependencies, and constraints, including leading recovery efforts for complex or underperforming programs.
- Strong leadership, coaching, team development, change management, and executive communication skills.
- Experience with portfolio management, project management, and resource planning tools preferred; PMP, PgMP, PfMP, or related certification preferred.
Estimated Hiring Range:
At Vizient, we consider skills, experience, and organizational needs in our compensation approach. Geographic factors may adjust the range estimate and hires typically fall below the top range. Compensation decisions are tailored to individual circumstances. The current salary range for this role is $117,600.00 to $206,000.00.This position is also incentive eligible.
