Position Summary

The ideal candidate for the IT Manager is an experienced, hands-on leader who understands the interface between operating processing facilities and information technology. The candidate should be very adept at change management and has worked in a high growth, entrepreneurial environment. They will focus on infrastructure, network, operations, and security at our operating facilities. They will acquire, configure, and maintain field devices, troubleshoot networked equipment (hardware and software), provide after-hours support when necessary and provide remote support as needed. The IT Manager will work closely with site plant operations, maintenance, health and safety and OT infrastructure. The role is expected to be highly skilled in vendor management (especially for industrial data systems/OT) and have a track record of creatively solving problems. The role is located in Chicago, IL and will report to the Vice President of Engineering.


Key Responsibilities

Operations:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, such as engineering and asset management, to design and manage IT infrastructure at new and operating facilities
  • Define and oversee network architecture at new and operating facilities
  • Lead IT commissioning activities to bring new facilities online successfully
  • Perform routine and unplanned maintenance of IT infrastructure at operating facilities. Ensure all infrastructure meets reliability and performance requirements for communications and data integrity
  • Engage and manage all stakeholders, including ISPs, to execute network design and architecture
  • Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues impacting database and business intelligence tools
  • Develop and manage Service Level Agreements with vendor partners & IT service providers dedicated to our operating assets
  • Engage, as a stakeholder, in the design and development of new assets from initiation to completion
  • Stays abreast of the latest technology trends, industry advancements, and regulatory changes, and makes recommendations for adopting new technologies to improve operational efficiency

Administration:

  • Partner with MSP provider to develop and maintain cyber security standards and action plans for operating facilities
  • Develop and organize IT policies and procedures for our operating assets that are in line with sound industry practices such as Incident Response and Disaster Recovery protocols
  • Manage procurement processes for IT hardware, software, and applications including developing business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives
  • Support ad-hoc projects related to M&A due diligence and integration of new assets
  • Plan, resource, and provides direction and technical leadership for IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Own and manage assigned IT-related operating expense budget. Assist in the development and management of the department budget, tracking expenses, and ensures that resources are allocated effectively to meet business requirements

Required Skills / Abilities / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, IT or a related field (required)
  • 5+ years of experience as an IT support professional (required)
  • 3+ years in a supervisory role (preferred)
  • Experience with industrial cloud infrastructure environments (Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure), cloud migrations, WFA technologies, SQL, MFA, VPN, MDM and business intelligence (required)
  • Understanding of networking technologies and protocols such as IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls. Ability to enforce consistent WAN and LAN network designs (required)
  • Microsoft 365 (Modern Desktop Administrator Associate) certification and experience in a Microsoft Teams and PowerBI environment (preferred)
  • Strong project management and time management skills (required)
  • Passion for & track record of problem solving and delivering results (required)
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills. Strong customer service, interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships externally and internally (required)
  • Ability to work independently to organize, plan, coordinate, and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously (required)
  • Interest in alternative energy and/or renewable fuels (preferred)
  • Must be able to travel 30-40% of the time to project sites (required)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. (required)
