Summary
Designs, builds, maintains, and supports the applications used by Wealth Management, as a member of its agile team. Development work is done using agentic tooling in both React/Typescript/Postgres and legacy .Net/SQL environments, with the engineer planning the work before implementing it, and accountable for what is merged, including changes produced with coding agents.
This is a senior individual contributor role, with no supervisory responsibility. The engineer is expected to raise the level of the team by example: explaining decisions so others can repeat them, reviewing work in a way that teaches, and treating questions and mistakes as part of how the team improves rather than as interruptions. Mentoring is a real expectation. People management is not.
This position will also be asked to support production issues that need attention. That work is secondary, and prior experience with it is helpful rather than required.
Essential duties
- Delivers user stories from plan through tests, review, and release, in partnership with the Product Owner and Business Analyst.
- Uses the team's coding-agent workflow as a normal part of delivery: plans the work, directs the agent through established skills and rules, and reviews the result before it is merged.
- Keeps the team's rules, skills, and review practices current as the work reveals gaps.
- Helps more junior developers improve, including how to work with agents: when to trust generated output, when to reject it, and how to leave the codebase clearer than they found it. Gives feedback on the work. Makes it easy to ask a question or admit a mistake.
- Investigates production problems in the applications this team owns, including the legacy applications still in service. Collaborates with other teams rather than working a problem in isolation when the cause sits outside this team's code.
- Participates in agile ceremonies, estimates, and technical discussions with Product Ownership, Management, and Enterprise Architecture. Recommends direction. Does not own the team's direction alone.
- Documents systems and decisions well enough that another engineer, or an agent working from those documents, can continue the work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities
None.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in financial services, particularly brokerage, trust, or financial planning systems, is preferred.
- Able to deliver production software without close supervision, and able to make the people around them more effective while doing it.
Technical skills
Required:
- TypeScript as the primary language
- React, including component design, forms, client-side data fetching, and automated tests
- A typed server-side API framework, with validation, dependency injection, and tests. NestJS or a comparable Node.js framework is preferred.
- SQL and relational schema design. PostgreSQL is preferred. Microsoft SQL Server experience transfers.
- Git, pull-request review, and automated testing, including the judgment to tell a useful test from one that only executes the code
- Current use of coding agents to plan and implement software, and the judgment to review and reject the output. Experience maintaining team rules or agent workflows is a strong advantage.
Preferred:
- Azure, containers, and Kubernetes
- Python for data work, including Databricks or PySpark
- C#, .NET, and Microsoft SQL Server, for the legacy applications this team still supports
- Atlassian Jira
Not required, and not a substitute for the required list: Visual Basic .NET, ADO.NET, jQuery, IIS administration, IBM InfoSphere, IBM mainframe jobs, Bamboo, Jenkins.
Certificates, licenses, registrations
None required.
