The Business Analyst plays a critical cross-functional role focused on capturing and understanding business requirements at a user story level. This position participates and collaborates within an Agile development team, understands overall business flows, and works regularly with Product Owners, SMEs, and business stakeholders. The BA assists decision-makers in gathering information, collaborates with QA to identify and write detailed test case requirements, and creates and maintains business and product artifacts.

What You'll Do

Requirements & User Story Development

  • Capture and document business requirements at the user story level, ensuring clarity and actionability for development teams.
  • Write and break down user stories, acceptance criteria, and test cases in collaboration with Product Owners and QA teams.
  • Define and document improvements to business processes and products.
  • Assist decision-makers in gathering and synthesizing information to support informed decisions.

Agile Collaboration

  • Participate as an active member of an Agile development team, contributing to ceremonies and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Work closely and regularly with Product Owners, subject matter experts, and business teams to understand overall business flows.
  • Collaborate with QA to identify, write, and refine detailed test case requirements.

Documentation & Artifact Management

  • Create and maintain business and product artifacts including process documentation, user stories, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive business data.
  • Train others in work procedures as needed.

Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Analyze business information needs and procedures to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Use independent judgment to handle moderately complex issues and problems, referring only unusual cases to others.
  • Research and evaluate alternatives, reach decisions, and make recommendations to stakeholders.

What Skills You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of work experience including business processes and business analysis or project management.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Knowledge of technology testing methods and procedures.
  • Experience writing and breaking down user stories, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Proficiency with personal computer applications including spreadsheet and data manipulation software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills across all levels of an organization, including external vendors.
  • Strong team facilitation and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple high priorities.
  • Ability to organize time and resources, delegate, plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of property casualty rating, policy coverages, and endorsements.
  • Familiarity with insurance coverages, rating schemes, and insurance products.
  • Experience with continuous delivery and continuous integration practices.
  • Experience working in application lifecycle management tools such as Azure DevOps, JIRA, or Rally.
  • SQL knowledge.
  • Familiarity with company and department practices and procedures in an insurance or regulated environment.
