IT Architect - Applications & Data
Role Definition:
Provides architectural leadership in designing and implementing enterprise-grade data and application solutions. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of IT capabilities within the organization, with a strong focus on Snowflake-based data platforms, procurement and supply chain application architecture, and the integration of GenAI technologies to drive innovation and efficiency.
The IT Architect serves as a technical thought leader and strategic partner, resolving complex technical challenges and guiding cross-functional development teams across diverse technology stacks. This role ensures that solutions deliver measurable business value, align with enterprise architecture principles, and support long-term digital transformation goals.
What You Will Do:
  • Architect Scalable Data Platforms:
    Design and implement secure, high-performance data solutions using Snowflake, ensuring alignment with enterprise data governance, compliance standards, and business intelligence needs.
  • Modernize Core Business Applications:
    Lead the transformation of procurement and supply chain applications, including re-platforming legacy systems, defining integration strategies, and enabling real-time data flows across enterprise platforms.
  • Drive GenAI Innovation:
    Identify, evaluate, and implement GenAI use cases across IT and business domains.
  • Strategic Architecture Planning:
    Collaborate with business and IT leadership to define multi-year architecture roadmaps, ensuring technology investments support evolving business models and operational priorities.
  • Governance & Quality Assurance:
    Ensure architectural deliverables meet enterprise standards for scalability, security, and maintainability. Provide oversight and mentorship to development teams to uphold best practices in design and implementation.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership:
    Act as a liaison between business stakeholders, data engineers, application developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure cohesive solution delivery and alignment with strategic objectives.

What You Have:
Procurement & Supply Chain Application Expertise:
  • Deep understanding of procurement and supply chain systems, including their business processes, data flows, and integration points.
  • Experience in designing and implementing enhancements, integrations, and data strategies for these platforms.
  • Ability to lead end-to-end lifecycle activities including requirements gathering, solution design, testing, deployment, and retirement planning.

Analytical Thinking & Data Science Acumen:
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Familiarity with data science concepts and tools to support advanced analytics and decision-making.

Technical Excellence Across Platforms:
  • Expertise in Snowflake architecture, data modeling, performance tuning, and security.
  • Proficiency in designing custom applications and middleware integrations.
  • Hands-on experience with GenAI technologies and frameworks.

Business Assessment & Value Realization:
  • Skilled in assessing business needs and translating them into technical solutions that deliver tangible value.
  • Ability to conduct risk-benefit analysis and articulate the strategic impact of proposed solutions.

System & Technology Integration:
  • Proven ability to integrate diverse systems and technologies, ensuring seamless data exchange and process automation.
  • Experience designing GenAI-enabled solutions to enhance interoperability and user engagement.

Education / Experience: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

  • The primary location for this position is Irving, TX or Peoria, IL.

Summary Pay Range:
$126,000.00 - $189,000.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
