Job Overview:
The Issues Manager plays a critical role within the data governance team, responsible for the identification, logging, prioritization, and resolution of data-related issues. This role ensures that data quality and integrity are maintained across the organization and that any deviations are identified and addressed promptly. The Issues Manager works closely with other data governance stakeholders, IT teams, and compliance officers to ensure data issues are resolved effectively and in line with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Issue Identification and Logging:
Develop and manage a comprehensive process for identifying, logging, and tracking data issues across the organization. This includes monitoring systems for data inconsistencies, inaccuracies, or integrity breaches. - Prioritization of Issues:
Work closely with stakeholders, including IT, data engineering, and business units, to prioritize data issues based on their impact on business operations, compliance, and customer experience. - Issue Resolution Coordination:
Collaborate with IT, data engineering, data quality teams, and business units to resolve data issues. Ensure that resolutions are implemented in a timely manner and verify that issues are resolved to prevent recurrence. - Reporting to Stakeholders and Auditors:
Provide regular reports on open data issues, their status, and resolution efforts to relevant stakeholders, including senior management, legal, and compliance teams. Prepare audit documentation as required. - Controls and Risk Inventory Contribution:
Contribute to the development and maintenance of controls to minimize data quality risks. Maintain a risk inventory, documenting issues that pose a significant risk to data integrity or compliance, and propose strategies for mitigation. - Collaboration with Data Governance Team:
Work closely with the Data Governance Leader, Privacy Manager, and IT/Data Alignment Manager to ensure that data issues are aligned with the organization's data governance policies and regulatory requirements. - Continuous Improvement:
Identify patterns and trends in data issues and recommend improvements to data governance processes and systems. Work with the Metadata Manager and IT teams to implement automated checks to improve issue detection. - Regulatory and Policy Compliance:
Ensure that all data issues and their resolutions comply with internal policies as well as external regulatory requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, and industry-specific telecommunications regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field. Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CDMP) preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in data management, data quality, or data governance roles, with a focus on issue resolution.
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and telecommunications-specific compliance requirements.
- Experience with issue tracking tools and data quality management platforms (e.g., Jira, Collibra, Talend).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly diagnose data issues and identify root causes.
- Experience with risk management and controls in a data governance context.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and report effectively to stakeholders and auditors.
- Project management experience, with the ability to manage issue resolution projects across multiple teams.
Skills:
- Analytical and Diagnostic Skills: Strong ability to analyze data issues and identify root causes, trends, and patterns.
- Technical Proficiency: Understanding of data management systems, databases, ETL processes, and issue tracking tools.
- Project Management: Experience managing multiple projects or issues simultaneously, prioritizing work, and driving results.
- Stakeholder Management: Excellent collaboration skills to work across business units, IT, and data governance teams, ensuring alignment and timely resolution of issues.
- Risk Management: Ability to identify risks related to data quality or integrity issues and propose appropriate controls.
- Communication: Strong reporting and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues and their impacts to non-technical stakeholders.
