Amherst College invites applications for the Investment Analyst position. The Investment Analyst is a full-time, year-round position (two-year initial appointment) with a 15% incentive target. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $100,000 to $110,000 per year.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Amherst College endowment makes long-term investments in order to support a substantial portion of Amherst's operating budget in perpetuity. Our goal is to generate superior investment results on a multi-year basis. Our investment team partners with talented external investors across asset classes globally, including private and public equity, credit, real assets, and more. Before and after we partner with these investors, we conduct due diligence on people, organizations, investment strategies, track records, companies and other assets, and the fit in our portfolio in order to develop a view on whether an investment is merited.

The Analyst program provides a unique opportunity for new Amherst College graduates to gain broad exposure to, and experience in, institutional investing. The Analyst will be an active and engaged participant on the team and will assist in many facets of the investment process.

This is a two-year initial appointment, with the potential for further extension. Over the course of the program, the Analyst will gain broad exposure to the finance industry and asset management business. The position will provide the necessary qualitative and quantitative skills and experiences to allow the Analyst to pursue an advanced degree (e.g., MBA or other graduate program) or investment management work. In addition, the Analyst will receive support to pursue continuing education opportunities (including the CFA and/or CAIA charters) during their tenure.

The Investment Analyst will be trained by the Investment Officers and will work closely with the whole team. Over time, we expect the analyst will develop a broad range of responsibilities, including:

• Assisting team members with investment analysis, including research on investment organizations, people, investment strategies, and geographical markets, as well as specific companies and portfolios of companies, industries, and investment structures.

• Preparing for and participating in due diligence meetings with current and prospective investment managers.

• Making contributions to written investment analyses that demonstrate curiosity, rigor, thoroughness, and creativity.

• Supporting the operations of the endowment, including assisting with managing and organizing data and notes.

• Various other custom research and analytical projects focused on the overall Endowment portfolio, specific managers, and asset classes.

• Collaborate with the key constituents at Amherst, including staff, faculty, and student groups.

• Promote connectivity with students and the Investment Office, including through interaction with student interns and on-campus groups.

• May have the opportunity to travel to cover meetings with existing or prospective managers (~10% of the time).

Qualifications:

A successful Investment Analyst provides meaningful, actionable analysis in support of investment decisions. The Investment Analyst must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, hard-working, and able to work both independently and as part of a broader team. A significant portion of their work requires someone who is able to prioritize and juggle multiple projects concurrently. Verbal and written communication skills are key, as are quantitative skills, and the ability to conduct primary research. In addition to these attributes, successful candidates will exhibit the following qualifications and skills:

• Bachelor’s degree from Amherst College required.

• Intellectual curiosity and ability to think critically.

• Passionate / mission-oriented, with a long-term focus on the College’s success.

• Demonstrated interest in endowments and/or investing.

• Strong orientation to detail and accuracy.

• Contributes to a respectful and welcoming workplace and supports efforts to maintain a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work environment.

• Successful completion of required reference and background checks.
