Investigative Consultant
Full-Time (Hybrid - 3 days per week in office)

The Opportunity
As an Investigative Consultant, you will have the opportunity to develop investigative skills applicable to a broad spectrum of matters and products including life, annuity, disability and long-term care insurance, as well as broker/dealer and investment adviser products and services, regulatory and government enforcement issues, account takeover, and elder financial abuse. You will evaluate available data sources, assist team members in complex investigations, and conduct analysis of varying types of information to derive insights that translate into indicators of potentially fraudulent activity. The Investigative Consultant works closely with peers, business partners and Company attorneys, as appropriate.
The Team
MassMutual's Investigations Unit is a uniquely skilled team of anti-fraud professionals who autonomously protect MassMutual, our customer, and the financial services industry by completing unbiased investigation and consultations that enable our partners to reach sound conclusions. We are responsible for investigating, reporting on, and assisting with the prevention and prosecution of known or suspected acts of fraud and other acts of misconduct or wrongdoing committed by or against the Company.
The Impact:
- Investigate suspected fraud, misconduct or wrongdoing affecting MassMutual's various business lines by conducting a thorough analysis of data resources across MassMutual and industry recognized databases, using all available tools to aggregate and assess relevant information.
- Concurrently manage a diverse caseload of investigations and consultations including data/document review, analysis, reporting, communication with business partners and file documentation while maintaining up to date case files, preserving all notes, documentation and/or other evidenced obtained during the investigation.
- Identify and interview potential witnesses who may provide information pertinent to the investigation.
- Work collaboratively with the Investigative/SIU team, business partners and attorneys on investigations and fraud prevention initiatives.
- Initiate referrals to State Insurance Department Fraud bureaus and other agencies as needed and interact with state and federal regulators, law enforcement agencies and other special investigative units.
- Monitor industry trends and hot topics, apply learnings to ongoing investigations, and identify opportunities for education and awareness activities as part of anti-fraud training programs.
- Approximately 5% of your work time may involve travel.
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience.
- Due to the nature of this position, as part of the background check process, candidates must be able to pass a non-registered fingerprint background check to qualify as a fingerprinted person under FINRA
The Ideal Qualifications
- Strong technology, data management and data analytics skills
- Experience in the insurance or financial services industry, with a demonstrated understanding of insurance and financial products; underwriting, claim handling, cyber fraud, data privacy, identity theft and/or elder financial abuse experience a plus.
- Experience in the collecting and analyzing of information, interpreting evidence, utilizing relevant technology and reporting findings in an efficient and effective manner.
- Exceptional judgment, organizational, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels within and outside of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, handling moderate to more complex projects but with a strong commitment to teamwork, collaboration, cooperation, continuous improvement and sharing of knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize constantly shifting tasks, organize and coordinate work while showing initiative, independence and impeccable judgment.
- Actively pursues enhancing current skills and learning new ones with a willingness to work on all types of projects/matters.

Salary Range: $95,100.00-$124,800.00
