Work Schedule: This position will be on-site 3-5 days a week.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Interventionist is a certified teacher with a minimum of 5 years of experience in classroom teaching who will work extensively with students to address specific learning needs for the appropriate core content.  Interventionists must have a working knowledge of all applicable programs and curricula to help students “fill in the gaps” in their educational needs. Interventionists must work with the classroom teacher and learning coaches to determine strategies that best help students succeed to their highest potential. They must also provide, administer, and analyze screenings required by the State and recommended by teachers and parents. The person in this role will work under all applicable laws, guidelines, and UVA policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Interventionist will be responsible for the following: 

• Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading instruction using our progress-monitoring instrument as a base
• Design interventions and write lesson plans detailing methods and materials 
• Assists in the evaluation of ongoing programs and makes recommendations for change
• Helps teachers, other administrators, and supervisors in implementing the school reading program and math programs
• Helps teachers diagnose reading and math strengths and weaknesses and matches these skills with appropriate techniques and materials
• Keeps parents informed as to the purposes and progress of the reading program 
• Works with support staff and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of the reading program with the total curriculum
• Works with the classroom teacher and school leaders to coordinate reading and math instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students
• Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress
• Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed
• Attends appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills 

• Collaborates with the Department of Diverse Learners to collect data utilized in 1508 evaluations, contact parents, complete necessary reports, set up SBLC meetings, attend meetings, and provide additional data as needed. 
• Contact parents regarding screening needs 

• Communicate with teachers regarding screening needs 
• Sends out consent and all necessary forms for each screening as assigned by supervision. 
• Conducts screenings for ADD/ADHD, RightEye, KBIT, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, STAR Reading and Math, Irlen, and other student challenges, as needed 
• Travels as needed to conduct face-to-face Irlen screenings 
• Conducts state-mandated screenings (Dyslexia and ADD/ADHD) for all 3rd-grade students at the mid-year point 
• Writes reports on each screening's results and contacts parents, teachers, counselors, and 504 Coordinators regarding the results 
• Performs all other duties as assigned
