Public Investments - Municipal Trading/Credit Analytics Internship
As a Public Investments intern, you will work alongside your hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. We are here to help you both identify and continue to develop your future career goals and passions. The Public Investments Department within Northwestern Mutual Investment Management Company, LLC (NMIMC) manages the public markets investments of Northwestern Mutual, with more than $100 billion under management in Municipal, Investment Grade Corporate, Emerging Market, High Yield Corporate, Structured Product, Government, and related Derivative assets.

  • Participate in the day-to-day investment processes of the Municipal Team
  • Assist in the creation of a trading analytics to quantify relative value opportunities based on trading levels and desired relative portfolio positioning
  • Participate in asset class, industry strategy, and investment/portfolio position meetings with both internally as well as externally with Wall Street counterparties
  • Complete ad-hoc projects with Senior Credit Analysts, as well as the Group Head/Senior Portfolio Manager


Bring Your Best! What this role needs. Minimum qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Investments, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: Finance, Investments, Coding, or similar concentration
  • Employer immigration sponsorship is not available for this role


Preferred skills and proficiencies
Technical

  • Statistics/data analysis coursework and/or experience
  • Background in bond pricing mathematics
  • Experience with Bloomberg (can be completed prior to starting internship) Power BI or Tableau
  • Ability to manipulate multiple datasets into a front-end interface for trading or Credit Research (options include but are not limited to: Excel, PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Datasets are often originated in an Excel format; however the manipulation can be done with other software (Visual Basic, SAS, Python, R)
  • Mandatory detailed documentation of all work product


Interpersonal

  • Passion for the art and science of investing
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability
  • High degree of self-motivation, passion, and a drive to learn
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities


The expected pay range for this position is $23.75 - $25.25 per hour

Pay rates for internships are determined based on academic tenure and major.
