What will you be doing?
Imagine waking up in a hotel anywhere in the world. Today is the day you've been preparing for months: the customer acceptance test. Your journey began at the office, gathering all relevant information, documents, drawings, parameter files, and developing the low-level software and configuration files. The past few months on-site have been intense, but you've met many people and become an integral part of the multidisciplinary, international site team. Together, you've successfully integrated the sorter into the customer's complete solution. This process included I/O checks, commissioning the (safety) PLC, parameterizing and fine-tuning frequency drives, interfacing with other systems, and optimizing the FSC. Your analytical skills, combined with the support of your colleagues, have helped you overcome challenges along the way. As the day progresses, you execute test cases according to the test protocol. The sorter is just one component of the overall material handling system, which performs well, meeting the set requirements and proving its functionality. You feel a sense of pride in what the team has achieved. In the evening, you celebrate the success with a joint dinner. Now, you're ready to enter the final phase of the project: the stand-by period, providing support during the initial weeks of operation before handing over to the service department. With this project nearing completion, you're excited to move on to your next adventure in a new location.
Responsibilities
As a Controls Commissioning Engineer for loop sorters, you'll share responsibility for commissioning our systems at customer sites. Your main task is to configure and commission the Vanderlande FSC (Flow Systems Controller) system. This configurable equipment controller is used to build automatic sortation systems. System components include the industrial computer with configurable FSC software application, programmable controllers (Siemens PLC), industrial networks (Profinet/AS-I/Industrial Ethernet), motor controllers, sensors, and numerous industrial low-level equipment. Your work also includes describing and commissioning interfaces with other components of the overall system. After completing the in-house engineering, you'll travel to the customer site to commission the system. This involves checking and setting up the electrical mechanical installation, building interfaces with peripheral equipment such as barcode scanners, fine-tuning the FSC software configuration you've engineered, and putting our software into operation. In this role, you'll closely collaborate with all parties on-site. Since problems can occur anywhere in the system, analyzing problems often requires data analysis, logical reasoning, and troubleshooting system components. You'll be largely responsible for subsystem testing and ensuring the system passes the site acceptance test.
