About the Role

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Associate / Associate to join our International Arbitration team based in Hong Kong or Germany.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Advising clients on various aspects of contentious, particular international arbitration proceedings, from pre-arbitral strategy through to enforcement of awards
  • Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda
  • Drafting and reviewing pleadings, written submissions, witness statements, and expert reports
  • Managing document review and disclosure exercises
  • Assisting with the preparation and conduct of hearings, including witness preparation and cross-examination support
  • Engaging with arbitral institutions and managing procedural aspects of arbitration proceedings
  • Advising on the recognition, enforcement, and challenge of arbitral awards
  • Supporting business development initiatives, including pitches, client alerts, thought leadership, and training programmes
  • Mentoring and supervising junior associates and trainees, as appropriate

About You

We will invest in your ongoing training and development to support your professional goals and help you to thrive in your role from day one. Our opportunities are open to all qualified and experienced applicants to be considered for this role, you must meet the following skills and experience:

  • You have relevant, post-qualification experience in international arbitration and disputes, preferably working within an international law firm with the responsibilities listed above for at least 2 to 3 years
  • You are a civil law qualified lawyer, preferably in a continental European jurisdiction, and additional common law qualifications are welcome
  • Fluency in English and (Mandarin) Chinese is required, additional European languages are welcome
  • Attention to detail, strong organisational and communication skills, team work, and willingness to learn

Skills Required

  • Post-qualification experience in international arbitration and disputes (2-3 years)
  • Civil law qualified lawyer
  • Continental European jurisdiction qualification (preferred)
  • Common law qualifications (welcome)
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese
  • Experience advising across the full arbitration lifecycle including pleadings, hearings, document review and enforcement of awards
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational and communication skills, teamwork and willingness to learn
  • Experience mentoring and supervising junior associates or trainees
