About the Role:
The Internal Audit Trainee supports the Director, Internal Audit - Advisory in executing advisory projects, operational reviews, and business process assessments. This entry-level role gathers and analyzes information, documents processes and observations, and helps develop practical recommendations and action plans. Working with stakeholders across the organization, the Trainee helps identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and support effective business operations. The role requires analytical thinking, curiosity, attention to detail, and an understanding of how business processes contribute to broader company goals.
Essential Functions:
Project and Advisory Support
- Support advisory engagements, operational reviews, and special projects led by the Director, Internal Audit - Advisory.
- Complete assigned project activities, research, and follow-up work in accordance with established objectives and timelines.
- Prepare organized workpapers, project summaries, presentations, and other supporting materials.
Business Process Review and Improvement
- Assist in evaluating business processes, workflows, risks, and control activities.
- Document current-state processes and identify inefficiencies, control gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Help develop practical recommendations that align with business needs and broader company objectives.
Data Analysis and Research
- Collect, organize, validate, and analyze data to identify trends, exceptions, and improvement opportunities.
- Conduct research on industry practices, process improvement approaches, emerging risks, and relevant requirements.
- Summarize findings clearly to support project observations and recommendations.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
- Participate in meetings and interviews with business stakeholders to understand processes, challenges, and objectives.
- Communicate professionally and collaborate with stakeholders to gather information and clarify project matters.
- Assist in preparing and presenting observations, recommendations, and project updates in a clear and constructive manner.
Documentation and Action Plan Support
- Maintain accurate, complete, and well-organized project documentation and supporting evidence.
- Assist in documenting observations, recommendations, management responses, and agreed action plans.
- Support follow-up and tracking of action items through completion and provide status updates as requested.
Education & Experience:
- Required: Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field. Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
- Preferred: Internship, academic project, or prior work experience involving internal audit, consulting, process improvement, data analysis, research, or business operations. Interest in pursuing the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation or another relevant professional certification.

- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to gather, organize, evaluate, and interpret information from multiple sources.
- Understanding of basic business processes, risks, internal controls, and continuous improvement concepts.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize information clearly.
- Ability to build collaborative working relationships and interact professionally with stakeholders at different organizational levels.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, seek guidance when appropriate, and demonstrate initiative and learning agility.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; ability to learn additional data analysis and reporting tools.
