Role Overview:
As a Data Analytics Intern, you will work alongside the Governance, Risk, and Compliance team to develop data-driven dashboards that enhance risk identification, operational efficiency and strategic decision-making across Sonoco’s global business units.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data analytic and reporting dashboards
Gather data from multiple sources such as SQL databases, Excel files, cloud platforms, APIs, and enterprise systems
Apply time intelligence functions (YTD, MTD, rolling averages, etc.)
Build interactive visually compelling Power BI reports and dashboards
Select appropriate visuals (charts, tables, maps, KPIs) for different analytics needs
Enable drill-throughs, tooltips, bookmarks, and slicers for self-service analysis
Analyze trends, variances, anomalies, and performance against KPIs
Document findings, create presentations, and share results with stakeholders
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience with Python, R, SQL, or similar programming languages
Experience with data visualization tool Power BI
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Prior internship or project experience in analytics is a plus

Business Context & Communication – learn how to translate and communicate technical findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders
Power BI Report Development & Visualization - learn to design and build interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI using appropriate visuals, filters, and slicers
Power BI Data Modeling & DAX – learn how to create efficient data models and write basic to intermediate DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for calculated columns, measures, and KPIs
