GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Intern - Lending works with loan officers to learn the functions of the various positions in bank lending-related areas. The internship program aims to enable students in a four-year degree plan to learn the job responsibilities in the lending financial field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs the functions of various positions within the bank for training purposes such as the following: credit analysis, appraisal review, inspections, loan operations, collections. This duty is performed weekly, about 10% of the time.

2. Directly assists assigned Loan Officer. This duty is performed daily, about 20% of the time.

3. Attend various lending and compliance training sessions as assigned. This duty is performed as needed, about 5% of the time.

4. Assist with interviewing loan applicants, collecting financial and related data. This duty is performed as needed, about 10% of the time.

5. Learn to analyze financial and related data for use in determining creditworthiness. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.

6. Learn to prepare loan offering memos, modifications, and all supporting material. This duty is performed as needed, about 5% of the time.

7. Listen and learn to present loan offers verbally to individuals and committees.

8. Create an understanding of past-due accounts and how to work/resolve these accounts. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.

9. Make joint calls on potential or existing customers with experienced loan officers. This duty is performed weekly, about 5% of the time.

10. Originate loans with approval of supervisor. This duty is performed as needed.

11. Perform and document collateral inspections, prepare file notes. This duty is performed weekly.

12. Attend all Officers Loan Committee meetings. This duty is performed as needed, about 5% of the time.

13. Provide assistance the Senior Lending Officer with Board and other management reports. This duty is performed daily, about 5% of the time.

14. Clear new and existing credit and collateral exceptions for assigned lender(s).

15. Completes required BSA/AML training and other compliance training as assigned.

16. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

17. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization. Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business/company related articles and professional journals; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

- Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related business degree with a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Must be classified as a junior status from an accredited four-year university
- Must have knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations and knowledge of Bank policies and procedures
- Must have strong analytical, decision-making and problem solving skills
- Must be able to balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously within a limited time frame
- Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational, communication and customer relation skills
- Must have a basic understanding of accounting and finance
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
