Surgical Notes is hiring for an Insurance Verification Specialist to assist with insurance verification, authorization, and pre-service patient communication for all carrier types. The ideal candidate has excellent organizational skills, communication skills, with the desire and ability to learn quickly. Reports to: Insurance Verification Manager
Responsibilities:
- Verify all insurance coverages; including commercial, workers' compensation, auto, and Medicare/Medicaid
- Determine patient responsibility
- Verify patient demographic information and update when necessary
- Identify patient primary, secondary and tertiary insurance coverage if available
- Contact each health plan to verify coverage, eligibility, authorization requirements and patient share of cost
- Verify plan selected in Patient Accounting System matches plan type based on information provided by the insurance company
- Professionally communicate financial responsibility to patient and make arrangements to pay amount due prior to service
- Obtain authorizations as needed
- Escalate issues to IV lead/manager, as appropriate
- Other responsibilities as assigned

- Remote: The minimum bandwidth requirements are 10 Mbps upload and 50 Mbps download speeds. The recommended bandwidth requirements are 20 Mbps upload and 100 Mbps download speeds.
Job Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year's experience working with a healthcare provider
- A positive, open and friendly attitude to colleagues and clients
- Ability to accomplish tasks with little supervision
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret insurance plans, financial reports, and legal documents
- Able to proactively identify non-covered services
- Comfortable with electronic and manual insurance verification
- Effective time management
- Knowledge of insurance coverages: commercial, workers' compensation, auto, Medicare/Medicaid
- Superior customer service and professionalism
- Working knowledge and experience with IPAs and health plans
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and speed while working within tight deadlines
- Exceptional ability to follow oral and written instructions
- A high degree of flexibility and professionalism
- Excellent organizational skills
- Outstanding communications skills; both verbal and written

- Experience working in an Ancillary/Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
