Scope
Primarily supports the Midland Basin facilities engineering teams with field walks, IC&E drawing markups, Management of Change routing, and other instrumentation, controls, and electrical engineering activities supporting upstream oil and gas production facilities.
Responsibilities/Duties
  • Conduct surveillance and analysis of instrumentation, control systems, and medium- and low-voltage electrical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Specify and select instruments, sensors, control devices, and medium- and low-voltage electrical equipment for onshore production facilities.
  • Oversee the installation and commissioning of IC&E equipment and systems.
  • Participate in risk assessments, HAZOPs, Hazard Hunts, and Critical Operating Parameter Reviews.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and develop project scopes of work.
  • Ensure instrumentation, electrical, and control systems comply with company, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze IC&E system data to identify reliability, performance, and optimization opportunities.
  • Recommend and implement upgrades to instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.
  • Implement and enforce Safety, Health, and Environmental procedures.
  • Support changes, repairs, and alterations to plant pressure equipment through the Management of Change process.
  • Work with facilities engineers, machinery engineers, operations, maintenance, contractors, and other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation, control-system, and medium- and low-voltage electrical problems.
  • Provide shutdown engineering support.
  • Provide engineering support for brownfield upgrades and greenfield projects.
  • Prepare and review IC&E engineering deliverables produced internally or by contractors and subcontractors.
  • Review one-line diagrams, Cause-and-Effect diagrams, control narratives, wiring diagrams, installation details, instrument indexes, cable schedules, and related IC&E documents.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with company specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance and maintenance programs.
  • Ability to read and review P&IDs, electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, panel wiring diagrams, and instrument-loop wiring diagrams.
  • Project-management experience.
  • Experience retrofitting and upgrading PLC, DCS, fire and gas, and other protective systems.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation applications in hazardous locations.
  • Experience selecting and applying pressure, flow, and level measurement systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrument loops, control systems, and tuning problems.
  • Knowledge of low- and medium-voltage motor-control systems, including contactors, smart overloads, soft starters, VFDs, control methods, and communication pathways.
  • Experience selecting and specifying LV/MV transformers, switchgear, protective relays, motor-control centers, variable-speed drives, motors, and power cables.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, RS-485, RS-232, MQTT, radio, fiber-optic communications, and managed network switches.
  • Power-system and generation-equipment maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
  • Familiarity with protective-relay settings, testing, and coordination.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment and circuit applications in hazardous locations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical equipment and distribution problems.
  • Familiarity with Ignition, Seeq, and Spotfire, including dashboard development for operations troubleshooting and support.
  • SCADA, DCS, and PLC implementation and support experience.
  • Demonstrated upstream oil and gas production-support experience.
Skills and Qualifications
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering specialty, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design standards, specifications, codes, and safety criteria.
  • Knowledge of ISA standards, the National Electrical Code, ISA 84, API RP 551, NETA MTS, and NFPA 70E arc-flash and electrical-safety requirements.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequently changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English, particularly in technical and business communications.
