The Inseam in Lucchese Bootmaker’s Goodyear Department is a key step in the cowboy boot finishing process, this is a critical step in boot construction, ensuring the insole is securely and precisely positioned so it fits the foot correctly and maintains durability during wear. Position will need Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow safety and quality standards. Openness to learning and performing cross-training in other areas
Scope of Job
The Inseam job is a hands-on, precision-focused role in the finishing stage of boot making, directly impacting the boot’s final quality and appearance. It requires steady hands, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a production environment. This position requires flexibility, technical proficiency across multiple stations, attention to detail, and adherence to production and quality expectations.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Inseam Operator will perform the following operations on an as-needed basis. Responsibilities may be modified to meet business needs:
- Receive a rack full of boots.
- Use spray water bottle and slightly wet channel on insole.
- Use hand tool to open channel on the insole.
- Remove one boot at a time from the rack.
- Stand in front of the inseaming machine.
- Obtain a bundle of leather welts, soak them in a bucket of water for approximately five minutes.
- Place bundles in a bin which is located the floor on the right side of the welt machine.
- Hold the boot under the inseaming machine and use light pressure to move the boot under the inseaming machine putting the inseam around the boot.
- Thread welt into the machine.
- Take one boot at a time, sew the welt onto the sole of the boot using the inseam machine.
- Cut the welt.
- After completing a full rack push the rack to the next staging area once all boots have been completed.
- Inspect welt and for welt holes.
- Responsible for proper use of machines and changing the sand belt pads.
- Must meet the required goal for the day.
- Give minimal maintenance to machines.
- Notify supervisor when the machine needs additional maintenance.
- Always keep the work area clean.
- Assist other working areas, as necessary.

Education, Experience, and/or Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in boot manufacturing, leather goods production, or similar industrial manufacturing environment required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work standing for extended periods of 8-hour shifts.
- Frequent use of hands and wrists for repetitive motions.
- Must be able to lift and push 15 pounds as needed.
- Ability to reach, bend, and perform repetitive production tasks.
Skills Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum two (2) years related experience in boot manufacturing, leather goods production, or similar industrial manufacturing
- Ability to stand for extended periods (8-hour shifts)
