The Innovation Solutions Lawyer is a member of the AI & Innovation group, working at the intersection of law, technology, and process design to transform how legal work is performed and legal services are delivered. They are a qualified lawyer with large law firm or in-house experience who brings legal judgment, creativity, and technical fluency to build governed, practice-ready solutions. They will work closely with the firm’s attorneys, Goodwin Builders, Knowledge & Innovation lawyers, and other Digital & Technology members to design, build, and deploy solutions that elevate and expedite the performance of legal tasks and delivery of legal services.

What You Will Do:

• Support the Director of AI Products & Platforms in executing the firm’s strategy for legal innovation, AI adoption, and value realisation across the firm.
• Partner with K&I lawyers and practice group attorneys to translate legal and business requirements into functional, compliant workflows in firm-approved AI and legal tech platforms.
• Conduct user research, usability testing, and feedback sessions with attorneys and paralegals to validate product direction.
• Design, build, and iterate on prototypes for digital solutions, including multi-step and agentic GenAI workflows, retrieval-augmented generation over firm content, and integrations across firm systems via APIs.
• Test and refine digital solutions based on user feedback and measured evaluation results to ensure they are practice-ready and scalable, serving as the first-line technical lead during pilots and rollouts.
• Document all builds, configurations, and prompts. Design and run prompt evaluations, benchmarking, and accuracy/hallucination testing against gold-standard outputs. Define quantitative success criteria to ensure responsible AI use and data governance standards are met.
• Develop training materials, documentation, and other user-facing support resources for the digital solutions.
• Monitor performance, analytics, and user adoption to drive continuous improvement.
• Develop and maintain expertise in the firm’s core practice applications and generative AI legal technologies.
• Stay current on generative AI and legal technology and industry trends to keep the firm at the forefront of responsible technology use.

Who You Are:

• Legal practice degree and admission to practise as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales (England), or equivalent law degree for applicable jurisdiction, required.
• Minimum 4 years' PQE, typically 4 to 6 years, in a transactional practice at a large law firm or in-house legal department, preferably private equity, M&A, funds or real estate. Candidates with other practice backgrounds will be considered where they can show a strong grasp of London transactional workflows.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related analytical field is advantageous in addition to legal qualifications.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with legal technology or AI-enabled workflows, including experimenting with or building tools to improve legal work. This experience may have been gained in legal practice, a Knowledge & Innovation role, product implementation, or consulting.
• Proven ability to apply legal reasoning and judgment to technology-enabled workflows. Comfortable engaging directly with partners and lawyers at all levels on practice-specific requirements.
• Strong understanding of large law firm workflows and professional obligations. Able to translate legal reasoning into structured, technology-driven processes.
• Professional maturity, initiative, and intellectual agility. A self-starter who contributes ideas and takes ownership of outcomes.
• Experience configuring automation, workflow, or AI tools in a professional services setting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with comfort engaging lawyers and technologists.
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn new applications.

• Hands-on experience building in low-code/no-code and agent-development platforms (e.g., Power Automate, Power Apps, Copilot Studio, or comparable agent-building frameworks) preferred.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience building with generative AI systems, including prompt and context engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, model selection and comparison, output evaluation, and the practical limits of LLMs (hallucination, context windows, non-determinism), together with the related ethical, confidentiality, and usage considerations, required. Candidates will be asked to show work samples.
• Knowledge of document assembly tools and AI-assisted drafting/diligence tools preferred.
• Familiarity with SharePoint, Microsoft Excel, Teams, Box, iManage and Microsoft Office preferred.
