PURPOSE STATEMENT

A staff registered nurse is a professional registered nurse who directs and/or performs nursing care to patients assigned to his/her within the scope of his/her license.  The staff registered nurse reports to the Nursing Director on the unit to which he/she is assigned. This RN must effectively prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Demonstrates appropriate assessment and knowledge of Adult Nursing Care.
  • Demonstrates ability to initiate and monitor IV therapies in the Infusion Center.
  • Implements patient care according to planned interventions to attain the patient’s optimal level of function and documents according to policy.
  • Demonstrates positive customer service relations.
  • Routinely participates in QI projects and encourages the department to continuously improve.
  • Assists co-workers as needed/requested.
  • Supports the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Expected to serve as sitters as needed, following the successful completion of designated sitter education and training provided.
  • Performs other essential duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Missouri.
  • This individual should be knowledgeable regarding growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients in the following stages of life: early adulthood, middle age, and geriatrics.
  • Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Current AHA or Red Cross BLS required. 
  • Current AHA or Red Cross ACLS preferred. 
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic. 
  • English sufficient to provide and receive instructions/directions. 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must be able to sit and stand intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day. 
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. 
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. 
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing. 
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition. 
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs. 
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces. 

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current Missouri Registered Nurse license
  • Knowledge of adult, middle-age, and geriatric patient physical and psychological needs
  • Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification within 90 days of hire
  • Current AHA or Red Cross BLS certification
