Job Description

As part of our wider collaboration and growth initiatives, we are currently seeking to appoint an Infrastructure Project Director based in Italy. This role will report into AECOM’s Strategy and Growth sector within Transportation and will work closely across all our European business lines.

AECOM has identified significant opportunities for growth in the major projects market and we are positioning ourselves for these.  The role will focus on the pipeline of major projects and expand the teams’ delivery capability, and you will lead and manage the pursuit and delivery of large-scale projects working closely with clients such as construction companies and government agencies.  There will be a specific focus on Italian client engagement (internal and external/well versed with Italian public procurement codes), managing pipelines and setting up major projects for success, and overseeing the delivery of these projects.  You will be required to integrate capability from across AECOM to deliver large-scale projects on time and on budget.  Your exceptional leadership skills will be instrumental in creating a collaborative, innovative, and proactive culture.

About You

Drawing on your design and major project delivery experience you will have a desire to lead and build a team servicing both major infrastructure projects and key clients. As a strong collaborator, you work well with teams at different levels, drawing on your leadership, client service, and technical experience. You will be able to manage multiple stakeholder inputs with competing priorities whilst maintaining relationships and progress. 

Your knowledge of major infrastructure projects and programs will be important. You will be able to provide inspirational leadership and create an inclusive environment across a range of disciplines, having led delivery on major projects. You will have an ability to think strategically allowing you to make timely decisions and formulate delivery, recognising the overall direction of the project.

The Infrastructure Project Director will be accountable for overseeing the pipeline of work and setting the Transportation team up for success in delivering this portfolio of major projects; specifically, he will:

  • Lead development and execution of significant transport infrastructure projects
  • Identify, Position, Plan and Prioritise major project related business development activities. This will include targeting and positioning for short and longer-term opportunities in this market.
  • Maintain, enhance, and grow client relationships to enable AECOM to be well-positioned to bid and deliver major projects
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams from the technical skills and capabilities within the infrastructure subsector and wider AECOM team
  • Be a visible leader and trusted advisor by promoting AECOM’s values both internally and externally within the major projects market
  • Build effective working relationships with the AECOM Work Winning/Business Development community to maintain momentum toward our growth plans related to major projects.
  • Build effective working relationships internally with a particular emphasis on working with colleagues across Europe
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver successful multi-disciplinary bids.
  • Apply AECOM Governance across all major project pursuits, including Go/No Go Processes and compliance with DoA matrix in accordance with our delegated powers.

To effectively undertake the above responsibilities, we anticipate that up to 3 - 4 days/week would be required.

    Qualifications

     

    • Experience in leading major transport infrastructure projects.
    • +15 years of experience.
    • Demonstrated expertise in managing and preparing transportation project teams.
    • A proven track record in developing and growing client relationships, client account management, major project pursuits, and staff development.
    • Strong knowledge of the Italian public procurement code and local regulations.
    • Fluent in Italian and English.
    • Effective communication, interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills.
    • Experience in collaborative, cross-discipline working at various levels and being able to manage different, and sometimes competing, inputs whilst maintaining progress.
    • Flexible and proactive approach and ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Membership of a recognized professional body in an appropriate discipline (e.g. PE, PMP).
    • Master’s or bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Civil, or Structural.
