What is the Infrastructure Services Team and why join?
Infrastructure Services is a core WWT IT engineering team that builds, manages, and supports foundational server, virtualization, and operating system platforms. The Infrastructure Patch & Vulnerability Engineer is a mid-level technical role focused on strengthening infrastructure security posture through disciplined patching, vulnerability remediation, lifecycle management, and automation across Windows Server, Linux, VMware, and related enterprise infrastructure components.
What will you be doing?
In this role, you will help drive enterprise-wide patching and vulnerability management practices across the infrastructure estate, serving as a critical bridge between Information Security, Infrastructure Engineering, Operations, and application owner teams. You will help reduce risk by improving patch compliance, accelerating remediation of high-priority vulnerabilities, and ensuring infrastructure platforms remain secure, stable, supportable, and aligned to operational requirements.
Success in this position requires a strong technical foundation across enterprise Windows, Linux, and virtualization platforms, paired with a passion for automation, process optimization, and proactive security improvement. You will provide engineering-level support for infrastructure patching workflows, coordinate remediation activity across partner teams, improve reporting and governance, and continuously seek opportunities to automate repeatable patching, validation, and vulnerability response processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Infrastructure Patching & Lifecycle Management: Plan, coordinate, and improve patching and lifecycle management processes for Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and other infrastructure components across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Vulnerability Management & Remediation Ownership: Partner closely with Information Security and operational teams to analyze vulnerability scan results, prioritize remediation based on risk, track progress against remediation timelines, and drive timely closure of critical and high-risk infrastructure vulnerabilities.
- Core Infrastructure Engineering & Support: Provide tier-2/tier-3 operational support for Windows and RHEL systems, troubleshooting complex OS-level performance, storage, networking, and boot issues for internal IT customers.
- Automation & Patch Orchestration: Leverage PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, Python, enterprise tooling, and AI-enabled agents to automate patch deployment, pre- and post-validation, vulnerability response workflows, reporting, configuration management, and recurring system administration tasks. Identify opportunities to use or build AI agents that assist with patch planning, remediation prioritization, maintenance readiness checks, exception analysis, and operational follow-up.
- Maintenance Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement: Work directly with application owners, infrastructure teams, Information Security, and vendors to coordinate maintenance windows, communicate patching impacts, resolve blockers, and align remediation plans with business and operational needs.
- Compliance Reporting & Governance: Develop and maintain patch compliance reporting, vulnerability remediation trackers, exception documentation, and recurring operational reviews to provide clear visibility into infrastructure risk, remediation progress, and areas requiring escalation.
- Operational Readiness & Documentation: Maintain technical runbooks, patch procedures, validation checklists, rollback plans, operational ticket queues, and knowledge documentation to support repeatable, auditable, and low-disruption infrastructure maintenance.
