Position Description
GEICO is seeking an experienced software engineer to work on our Infrastructure Automation Tools team to help drive our tech transformation from a traditional IT model to one focused on engineering excellence, good code and documentation hygine, and creating resilient architectures driven by automation. This team is focused on automated tools and infrastructure as code to streamline operations on our Openstack private cloud, our network, and our hardware fleet. Managing a private cloud in an enterprise environment requires knowledge of hardware, virtualization, operating systems, and infrastructure automation.
Position Responsibilities
As an infrastructure automation engineer, you will:
Drive innovation of OS and firmware update strategies to ensure good testing, stability, performance, security, and remote management capabilities
Develop tools and processes for automated testing of servers and operating system images
Develop tools to monitor server fleet health and performance, focusing on strategic upgrades, proactive maintenance, and quick response to hardware, firmware, and detecting anomalies
Devise and implement automation scripts and tools for a wide range of fleet management tasks using a combination of IaC (Ansible, Terraform, etc) and traditional programming languages like Python, Go, and Rust
Work closely with our Openstack, Storage (ceph), and Hybrid Cloud teams to understand the automation needs for managing our private cloud, and understand the potential impact of OS and Firmware updates
Develop hardware lifecycle strategies, assessing ongoing performance, cost-effectiveness, and longevity from procurement to decommissioning
Keep a finger on the pulse of industry innovations, especially concerning CPU, chipset, storage, GPU, firmware, and BMC developments, ready to lead adaptation and advancement within our infrastructure
Desired Experience and Qualifications
Professional development experience in one or more of: Python, Go, Rust, C
Familiarity with IaC tools such as Ansible and Terraform in an enterprise private cloud environment
Hands-on experience in OS and firmware management strategies in a private cloud environment
Hands-on experience in systems/server management working with technologies like Redfish, BMC, and IPMI standards and crafting solutions for enhanced remote management of server hardware
Familiarity with architecture and management of server hardware, particularly focusing on CPU, chipset, storage, and GPU integration, and interoperability standards
Understanding of OpenStack and proven success in elevating server fleet management and automation practices
Experience implementing logging and dashboards with tools like Grafana, Prometheus, and Loki
Exceptional problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and meticulous attention to integration details
Industry certifications that endorse expertise in hardware engineering, firmware management, or data center operations are highly beneficial
Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary
$75,000.00 - $215,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
