The IT Strategic Business Partner is the digital transformation champion and engages with the function to develop business technology strategy by assessing business needs and proactively identifying technology solutions to enable the business strategy and enhance the efficiency of the department as well as the company.  They provide highly valued strategic consulting level support, guidance through key IT initiatives, and quality solutions to meet the needs of the department and the company.

The IT Business Partner (ITBP) has the overall responsibility to serve as the strategic interface with the Finance, Legal, Human Resources and Information Technology business functions for the purpose of business technology strategy development, solution discovery, service management, risk management and relationship management within a manufacturing organizationThe ITBP serves as the business relationship link between the business functions and IT.  They provide highly valued strategic consulting level support, guidance through key IT initiatives and quality solutions to meet the needs of their functional clients. 

 

The IT Business Partner (ITBP) communicates decisions, priorities, and relevant project information to appropriate levels of staff regarding the functions demands, Products, programs, projects, and initiatives in collaboration with the EPMOThey proactively share knowledge of technology risks and opportunities to build competitive advantage and improve efficiency and effectiveness of the functions.  They also partner with business leadership, Product Owners, and other key stakeholders to define opportunities and identify and prioritize projects based on predefined criteria (e.g., return on investment, productivity, compliance). 

Functional Advocate 

  • Understand business strategies and advocates for delivery of efficient and appropriate solutions to achieve business objectives and goals. 

  • Ensures alignment between the functions roadmaps and IT technical roadmaps. 

  • Manage the relationship with the functions and active engagement with functional leadership​. 

  • Establishes themselves as a strategic partner with the functions. 

  • Primary point of contact between IT and the functions for new demands and acts as an escalation point​. 

  • Engages cross-functional IS&S team members from Product Teams, Project Teams, IT Operations and/or IT Security based on the need​. 

  • Educates functional stakeholders on IT services and capabilities and provides strategy solutions and platforms to unify services. 

 

Manage Demand for IT Services 

  • Business value Identification​ & realization. 

  • Works collaboratively the functions to define the business case and associated total cost of ownership that supports the identified business outcome. 

  • Functional business plan & roadmap alignment​ that are then represented during portfolio formation​. 

  • Advocate for functions' priorities with IT Steering Group​ 

  • Work with the functions to collaboratively define, evaluate, and prioritize demand for new or changed IT services.  

 

Innovation & Exploration 

  • Works with the functions to explore new capabilities and technologies that could deliver differentiated value. 

  • Serves as an innovative thought leader working collaboratively with the business function and IT. 

  • Educates the business on the value of information technology. 

 

Servicing​ 

  • Ensure products & services for the function are fit for purpose (utility) and fit for use (warranty) 

  • Works with product teams and service teams to ensure the appropriate service levels are understood and obtained. 

  • Markets IT services and solutions to the business function 

  • Capture and analyze business feedback on the value of IT services. 

  • Identify improvements and successes and based on customer satisfaction patterns. 

 

Value Delivery & Realization 

  • Work collaboratively with the functions to ensure the full value of products and services are realized throughout their lifecycle. 

  • Ensures that there are metrics and monitoring capabilities in place for new products and services to minimize value leakage and to ensure that the value delivered matches expectations.
