CCI is seeking an Indirect Tax Lead to manage indirect and property taxes across its global commodity trading and asset investment businesses. This is a hands-on leadership role covering VAT/GST, US sales and use taxes, relevant commodity, fuel and excise taxes, and real and personal property taxes.
Working with Tax, Finance, Commercial, Operations, Asset Management, Legal and Technology, the successful candidate will oversee compliance, provide practical business advice and improve tax processes and controls. The role will coordinate delivery through internal teams and external advisers.

Key responsibilities

  • Leadership and governance: Own the indirect and property tax framework, with clear responsibilities, effective controls and timely escalation of material risks. Monitor legislative and business changes and implement required actions.
  • Compliance and accounting: Oversee registrations, returns and payments, including outsourced delivery. Work with Finance to maintain accurate tax balances, reconciliations and forecasts, and identify opportunities to improve tax recovery and cash flow.
  • Business advice: Provide practical tax advice on commodity transactions, contracts, physical delivery arrangements and asset operations. Support new markets, acquisitions, disposals and restructurings, identifying tax requirements early.
  • Property taxes: Oversee property tax filings, assessments, valuations and payments. Review assessments and manage appeals with specialist advisers. Maintain oversight of exemptions, abatements, incentives and payment-in-lieu-of-tax (PILOT) arrangements.
  • Asset coordination: Work with Asset Management, Operations and Finance to keep property records current, reflect acquisitions, disposals and capital expenditure in tax reporting, and support property tax budgets and investment decisions.
  • Systems and processes: Improve tax coding, master data and reporting across ERP, trading and billing systems, including SAP where relevant. Develop proportionate automation and provide practical guidance to business teams. Ensure appropriate controls over tax determination, invoicing, exemption documentation, input tax recovery and return-to-ledger reconciliations.
  • Audits and advisers: Lead tax audits, enquiries and disputes. Manage adviser and compliance-provider relationships, service quality and cost, and communicate significant exposures and remediation priorities to the Tax Director.

Experience and qualifications

  • Significant indirect tax experience in a multinational business, with strong VAT/GST expertise and the ability to oversee US sales and use taxes and relevant excise taxes through internal teams and specialists.
  • Experience managing property tax compliance, assessments and appeals for energy, industrial or other asset-intensive businesses, including the use of specialist valuation advisers.
  • Commodities, energy or physical trading experience is required.
  • A track record of advising commercial teams, managing compliance and audits, and improving tax controls, systems and data. SAP and ONESOURCE experience are desirable.
  • Relevant accounting, tax or legal qualification, or equivalent professional experience.

Personal attributes

Commercially minded, pragmatic and hands-on, with strong communication and influencing skills. Able to work across functions and jurisdictions, prioritize material risks and translate complex tax issues into clear recommendations.
